DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

What you'll do:

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School or GED. Certified and Registered Central Service Technician (HSPA) OR Certification from the Certification for SterileProcessing and Distribution (CBSPD). *Provisional certification is acceptable. 400 hours of on-hands training will need to be achieved prior to expiration of the provisional certification.
Required Licenses: Sterile Proc & Dist-Cert CBSPD, Central Sterile tech (HSPA)
Preferred Qualifications:
1- 2 years Central Service or Surgical Processing. Basic knowledge of aseptic techniques and procedures, sterilization techniques and procedures, infection control and work flow principles and requirements, equipment and supply processing. Demonstrated knowledge of all medical and surgical equipment and supplies within a Hospital setting and the ability to identify items and ensure accuracy against catalog listing of surgical instruments and equipment. Exercises responsible judgment to provide necessary supplies and equipment for patient care. Familiarity with a variety of surgical equipment, including but not limited to: dental, optometry/ophthalmology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, ENT, GYN, cardiology, dermatology, urology, podiatry, and general surgery.

We are actively hiring for an Endoscopy Technician at Advanced Surgery Center of Long Island, Port Jefferson Station 11776.
* Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA and Advanced Surgery Center of Long Island
* Function as an assistive person during endoscopy procedures by
* Assisting in maintaining patient safety
* Demonstrating safe operation of equipment and machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation.
* Handling specimens according to facility policy and procedures.
* Adhering to standard precautions including the use of personal protective equipment
* Performing interventions to protect the patient from infection
* Protecting the patient's rights, dignity, and privacy
* Providing age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice.
* Complying with Universal Protocol and facility site validation and time-out policy
* Assembling supplies and equipment required for the procedure.
* Preparing and organizing sterile (remove sterile) supplies and instruments for the procedure.
* Providing instruments and supplies to the endoscopist during the procedure.
* Provide hand-off reports to other teammates that are accurate, concise and pertinent to the patient's condition and response to care.
* Maintain endoscopy instruments and accessories in working order. Troubleshoots and recognizes malfunctions
* Clean and prepare equipment and instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas.
* Ensure scopes are handled safely and are prepared for use in accordance with policies and procedures and manufacturers' instructions for use
* Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills with members of the team
* Assist with post procedure cleaning of the procedure room and preparation of room for subsequent patients.
* Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects.
* Maintain required competencies.
* Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
* Actively participate in team meetings, trainings, and daily safety huddles.

Responsibilities
The Instrumentation Technician receives, sorts, and examines sterile surgical supplies. Inspects and prepares surgical items for sterilization. Loads and operates washer sterilizer, ultrasound cleaners and sterilizers. Understands and implements quality control of sterile and unsterile surgical items. Ensures that inventories are maintained and prescribed levels of sterile (instruments/supplies) and non-sterile supplies are maintained for OR Suites and surgical procedures. Takes appropriate action to repair or replace defective, damaged or missing instruments. Ensures that sterilizer tests are completed/monitored as needed. Implements procedures to ensure sterilizationprocesses, OR sanitation practices and safety regulations are adhered to in the OR and that proper attire and pre-cleaners are utilized.
The Instrumentation Technician actively participates and implements preventive maintenance in the OR. Inventories and maintains prescribed levels of supplies; implants and orthopedic implants. Prepares surgical case set up, instruments and supplies, monitors physician preference cards and anticipates needs of OR. Assists in preparing the OR suite for surgical procedure. Assists OR staff in transferring supplies and instruments and sets up rooms for next day procedures as needed. Assists in removing soiled instrument carts to pick up area.
Financial responsibilities of the Instrumentation Technician include demonstration of stewardship behavior by conserving hospital resources, supplies and instruments.
Qualifications
High School Or GED equivalent required. Central Sterile experience required. Knowledge of medical terminology and computer skills preferred. Strong communication skills preferred.
