Central Processing Tech - $2,500 Overlake Hospital is seeking a Certified Sterile Processing Technician for the Sterile Processing Department. The Certified Sterile Technician will be responsible for the technical functional tasks involved in the decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of all reprocessed items and equipment, including full surgical instruments trays. Additionally, the technician will be responsible for developing and maintaining systems and projects under the direction of the shift supervisor.
Schedule: Full Time / Night Shift

Qualifications for Central Processing Technician:
Education should include the equivalent of completion of High School level studies and Surgical Processing Technician Course completion strongly preferred.
Must obtain CRSCT certification within one year of hire date.
Preferred one year or more demonstrated competence and experience in a comparable position in another health care institution.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in the English Language.
Basic knowledge and understanding of the principles and theory relating to decontamination and sterilization procedures.
Ability to learn identification and proper handling of surgical instrumentation and to assemble full surgical instrument trays, surgical power equipment, and scopes.
Ability to perform all routine tasks/duties in the Surgical Processing, without direct supervision.
Ability to assist and support new personnel during their training period.
Demonstrated ability and initiative in performance of non-routine tasks/projects, without direct supervision.
Physically capable of standing and walking for long periods of time. Ability to lift instrument sets weighing approximately 30 pounds.
Qualifications for Certified Sterile Processing Technician:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Current Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), or Certified Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) is required.
One year of sterile processing experience in a acute care hospital setting preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in the English Language. Thorough knowledge and understanding of the principles and theory relating to decontamination and sterilization procedures required. Job Summary and Responsibilities Performs efficient and meticulous decontamination/sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment, as well as inspecting and assembling surgical instruments, equipment, trays, and packs according to prescribed protocols and industry standards for aseptic technique. Depending on the assigned hospital, incumbents rotate assignments among various decontamination sterilization processing, surgical tray assembly, supply and distribution functions in a continually changing medical and surgical facility. Work also includes: 1) tray assembly, 2) assisting in recordkeeping and monitoring equipment operations, 3) maintaining department inventory and 4) identifying and reporting supply, equipment, and procedure problems and 5) dispensing equipment and supplies.
Incumbents are also accountable for demonstrating awareness of personal and work area safety at all times; using evidence-based practices (EBP) and complying with facility safety policies and procedures in carrying out duties including those for blood borne pathogens and communicable diseases and; keeping knowledge current on aseptic techniques and basic microbiology sufficient to understand the ways diseases and infections are transmitted and the importance of clean and sterile supplies in patient care; attending training in new and improved sterilization practices and developments in the microbiology, bacteriology, and therapeutic practices as they affect the sterile supply operation.
Essential Duties:
Collects and decontaminates and cleans reusable equipment and/or supplies and associated storage units in accordance with department, manufacturer, and OSHA standards.
Assembles instruments, complex instrument sets, and other surgical items and kits by selecting the appropriate items, trays, instruments, and arrange them in the correct manner permitting effective sterilization using existing standard operating procedures and surgical case count sheets.
Sterilizes equipment in accordance with department, manufacturer, and OSHA standards using different agents, which may include steam, hydrogen peroxide, peracetic acid, ethylene oxide, and glutaraldehyde.
Performs periodic tests on autoclave effectiveness and maintains accurate sterilization records.
Maintains supply area and inventory levels.

Education & Experience:
Graduation from the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management Course (preferred) and one year of related work experience that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities, preferably in an operating room, acute care hospital or central services department preferred.

Evaluates and completes assessment of patient needs to provide supportive care before, during, and after procedures and maintains accurate and complete endoscopy records.
Maintains equipment and supplies to include: cleans and disinfects endoscopy equipment, operates and troubleshoots endoscopy and patient monitoring equipment, anticipates and assists with maintaining adequate inventory of supplies and medications, handles and cleans equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
Maintains flexibility and performs other duties as required.
Functions within legal limits of technical practice.
Recognizes limitations and reports situations beyond ability or function to proper person.
Reports errors of commission/omission.
Participates in QI, Materials Management, Safety and Infection Control programs.
Communicates pertinent information to co-workers.
Not responsible for administration of drugs, IV procedures, or other therapeutic and diagnostic measures falling within the realm of nursing practices.
Accepts direction from supervisor or physicians and adheres to established routines.
Performs added tasks as assigned by management
Minimum Requirements
A minimum of 1+ years of previous GI experience preferred
Associates Degree or medical assisting and/or prior technician experience.
Commitment to building strong working relationships with other providers and our healthcare team.
The Ideal candidate would be motivated, energetic and willing to learn.
Experience working in a healthcare setting, preferably in a same day surgery environment.
Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Required: BLS, Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers obtained within 30 days of hire.

Job Summary and Responsibilities Performs "pre-procedure" duties including: Pre-Procedure: contacting patient prior to appointment for pre-procedure confirmation and prep instruction review: Day of Procedure: room set-up for each procedure, engaging with providers as necessary to ensure all required equipment is ready for use.
* Assists patients with preparation for procedures including entering data into Cerner as delegated by RN.
* Assists RN with patient readiness including checking vitals, patient positioning, performing enemas, taking blood glucose reading, and performing equipment safety checks.
* Participates in pre-procedure time out as part of healthcare team.
* Engages with patient as necessary to ensure their comfort.
* Assists with procedures and operates a variety of equipment under the direction of the provider. Collects, prepares and labels specimens during endoscopic exams. Prepares pathology slips according to standard work.
* Assists with care of patient in recovery as delegated by RN including taking and documenting vital signs, removing IV catheter, and ambulating patients as necessary in preparation of discharge.
* Hands off information between procedures rooms, equipment inventory and other staff members ensuring that procedures start on time with all necessary equipment available and ready for use
Job Requirements
* Requires certification as a GI Technical Specialist from the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA) to be completed within 6 months.
* This position requires a high school diploma or GED.
* Ability to read and comprehend at a 12th Grade Level or above.
* Must be able to read, understand and implement instructions related to proper cleaning and high level disinfection of gastrointestinal endoscopes and accessories as well as various complex therapeutic modalities.
* Requires moderate physical strength in moving and adjusting equipment and patients.
* Requires good auditory and visual acuity and good manual dexterity.
* Requires a mature attitude and ability to maintain good rapport with patients, families, physicians, and other medical center personnel
Preferred:
* Completion of an accredited medical assistant course is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
* Completion of SGNA GI Advance Assistant program preferred.
