* Sterilizes cleaned, assembled, and wrapped sets and supplies using gas and steam sterilizers and gas aerators. Monitors sterilizers, aerators, washer-sterilizers and other equipment for proper functioning and reports malfunctions to appropriate supervisor.
* Inventories/stocks OR section carts, exchange carts and storage cabinets utilizing handheld computers. Removes damaged and/or outdated items, following established policies and procedures. Completes daily productivity reports and initials all work performed, as required.
* Attends seminars and in-services to maintain certification and up-to-date knowledge of sterile processing methods and practices. May serve as charge and resource person during the Lead SPD (Sterile Processing Department) Technician and/or assist with training SPD personnel, as needed.
Qualifications:
* High School Diploma or GED.
* May require up to 1 year of technical or other specialized training.
* Minimum of 1 year of experience.
* Registration by the International Association of Central Service & Materials Management (IAHCSMM).
* Current certification as Sterile Processing Technician (12 CEU's per year).

This position serves as Supply Technician for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System. As a Supply Technician, you will provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including, but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment.
What does a typical day look like for the

?
You will:
Pull stock inventory and material for delivery; replenishes stock inventory; interacts with clinical and administrative customers and maintains records on stock levels;
Communicate to the Lead or Supervisor any concerns related to supplies, equipment and procedures.
Provide information to customers regarding medical supplies;
Monitor expiration dates, rotates stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates;
Monitor and controls critical supplies;
Perform daily inventory using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule that will allow for timely replenishment;
Resolve differences between records and physical count of stock;
Distribute items according to established or ad hoc requirements in computerized inventory management systems;
Deliver supplies in a timely manner and ensures supplies and material delivered are in sterile and operational condition;
Complete specialty cart preparation;
Clean assigned secondary areas in accordance with aseptic principles; and
Receive supplies and material into the medical center's catchment area.

You will:

Monitor expiration dates, rotates stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates;

Resolve differences between records and physical count of stock;
Distribute items according to established or ad hoc requirements in computerized inventory management systems;

Job Responsibilities:
Performs and/or provides assistance to the physician and procedural team that reflect an awareness of anatomy, necessary principles, skills, supplies, and adequate knowledge base.
Assists the circulating nurse in implementing the perioperative plan of care to include: patient positioning, updating physician preference cards, care of endoscopic specimens, and room turnover.
Identifies factors relative to the patient's age and developmental stage that must be considered during the surgical procedure.
Assists with pulling cases and checks case carts for completeness; Obtains supplies and equipment and determines them to be in good working order before a case begins.
Prepares the endoscopy room by opening supplies, instruments, and devices based on scheduled procedure and physician preference card.
Exercises care in the operation and use of instruments/equipment/and reports/follow the appropriate procedure for broken items.

Job Description
General Summary
The Endoscopy Technician assists the physician with Endoscopy procedures and coordinates the daily activities associated with the care and handling, to include maintenance of flexible endoscopes used by in the Endoscopy Center. This includes, but not limited to, decontamination, inspection, testing, packing, high level disinfection and/or sterilization repair tracking, documentation, storage and distribution. This incumbent will also serve as an expert advisor to the Endoscopy Center leadership in regard to endoscope reprocessing by staying current with industry best practices, standards and regulations. Great customer service and critical thinking skills are required for interaction with customers and co-workers.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

Assists with procedures under the direction of the physician>
Utilizes accessories as requested to perform any therapeutic endoscopic procedure, i.e., biopsy, polypectomy, etc.
Reviews daily operating room schedule to ensure adequate coverage and resources to meet endoscope reprocessing needs. Responsible for ensuring an adequate inventory of disposable supplies are available for production activities.
Reprocesses endoscopes according to manufacturer's IFUs; SGNA, AORN, and CDC standards/recommendations.
Performs annual competency validation for the Endoscopy Center staff who are assigned endoscope reprocessing tasks and supports staff education for scope reprocessing: Ensures adherence to documentation requirements for compliance to regulatory standards.
Coordinates and manages repairs and loaners with Biomedical Engineering; ensures repairs are documented and expedited; following up and notifying the appropriate clinical practitioners in reference to scope availability.
Is competent on the operations of all production equipment and technology used for reprocessing medical devices. This includes washers, sterilizers, high-level disinfectors, incubators and instrument tracking system.
May perform technician duties as required during staffing shortages, increased work load and/or to expedite priority assignments.
Maintains appropriate certification and keeps abreast of industry changes to include regulatory and best practices. Conducts a minimum of two annual in-services in reference to practice updates.
May assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Ambulatory Manager in the development of departmental procedures and policies in reference to endoscope reprocessing.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Required, less than one year. Preferred one to three (1-3) years' experience in Endoscopy setting required, will consider applicable experience in operating room setting on a one-for-one equivalent.
CS technician certification from certified agency preferred.
Certified as an Endoscope Re-processor is preferred.
Proficient in using instrument tracking software.
Knowledge of medical terminology, supplies and a basic knowledge of computers and computer office software programs preferred.
