The SterileProcessing Tech is responsible for the decontamination, preparation, sterilization, documentation, and distribution of surgical instrumentation and supplies used in the operating room. This position may also perform the duties of stocking supplies in pre and post-op areas.
Join our team as a Casual SterileProcessingTechnician, supporting our five Surgery Centers located in Woodbury, Eagan, Vadnais Heights, Plymouth, and Minnetonka. In this role, the designated home base is our
Eagan Surgery Center
and will float to other locations as needed, providing exceptional patient care and teamwork across our network.
Nationally recognized SterileProcessing certification highly desired upon hire or must be obtained within 90 days of successful completion of educational/training program.
Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment; inspects, assembles, wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments.
Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
Sorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays and medical equipment and makes them available to sterileprocessing customers in a timely manner.
Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory; submit requisitions; collects and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment.
Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterileprocessing, the operating room, and in equipment storage areas.
Verifies that equipment functions properly: completes requisitions for repair or replacement of surgical instrumentation; removes defective instrumentation from general service.
Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
Disposes of filled suction and trash containers.
Documents all steps of the sterilizationprocess accurately and legibly; maintains sterilization logs and organizes evidence of sterilizationprocesses.
Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.
Acts as staff resource in matters related to sterileprocessing.
Summit's hiring range for this position is $22.25 to $27.82 per hour. The hired candidate may be eligible to receive additional compensation in the form of bonuses, differentials and/or deferred compensation. The SterileProcessing Tech (SPD) Responsible and accountable for all functions of the sterileprocessing department, under the guidance of the sterileprocessing department supervisors and manager.
This position is responsible for working independently and with team members to ensure that all surgical instrumentation are properly decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, and/or high level disinfected. All instruments must be distributed, tracked and stored in a safe, secure, aseptic and timely manner throughout the surgery center and clinics. Immediate-use steam sterilization, tray turnovers between surgical cases and releasing sterilized loads from the department must be performed observing standard practice. In specific locations, the role will also be responsible for surgical case cart assembly and delivery. The SterileProcessing Tech (SPD) Responsible and accountable for all functions of the sterileprocessing department, under the guidance of the sterileprocessing department supervisors and manager.
This position is responsible for working independently and with team members to ensure that all surgical instrumentation are properly decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, and/or high level disinfected. All instruments must be distributed, tracked and stored in a safe, secure, aseptic and timely manner throughout the surgery center and clinics. Immediate-use steam sterilization, tray turnovers between surgical cases and releasing sterilized loads from the department must be performed observing standard practice. In specific locations, the role will also be responsible for surgical case cart assembly and delivery. Each team member will be qualified to train others as assigned and serve as a front-line resource to sterileprocessing customers.
Work Schedule:
Casual Position
Variable shifts lengths, variable/flexible start times, rotating assigned late shifts, weekends and on-call rotation possible in the future.
Float to other surgery center locations as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Word Processing knowledge, typing, data entry, strong communication skills - verbal and written.
Certification Requirement: The candidate will present current certification from either CBSPD: C.S.P.D.T. or HSPA (formerly known as IAHCSMM): C.R.C.S.T. or 24 months from the date of hire.
This certification must be maintained for the duration of employment.
Park Nicollet team members who have been employed for 10 consecutive years prior to 2015 with no lapse in employment as Instrument Room Aide/SterileProcessing Department Technician (9AT) and/or Lead SterileProcessingTechnician (116-030) will not be required to obtain certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
Central Service/SterileProcessing/or Surgical Technology program certification with hands-on clinical experience or 1 year of central service/sterileprocessing/surgical technology experience is preferred
