The SterileProcessingTechnician must have a high school diploma or equivalent, possess at least one year experience in the OR or Central Sterilization. The SterileTechnician must have a basic understanding of aseptic technique, knowledge of sterilization principles, processing techniques and instrument/equipment care. The Tech must be certified in sterileprocessing by an accredited organization required by eighteen (18) months. The schedule typically rotates between 7:30am-4pm, 8am-4:30pm and includes some weekends and Federal holidays. Responsibilities
Distribute supplies and materials from secondary inventory points to all areas serviced by Logistics, including both sterile and non-sterile medical supplies.
Scan, receive, store, and distribute medical and surgical supplies.
Clean and rotate expendable medical supplies and implants using “first in, first out” principles.
Monitor expiration dates, rotate stock, and remove outdated or compromised items.
Perform daily inventory using barcoding equipment and computerized inventory systems (e.g., GIP/VISTA/AbovePAR/ParEx).
Unpack, store, and organize supplies in accordance with guidelines to ensure sterility and data integrity.
Maintain professional contact with clinical staff, logistics personnel, and external vendors.
Address supply issues, escalate unresolved matters to supervisors or Inventory Management Specialists.
Maintain records on stock levels and recommend adjustments as needed.
Deliver supplies to wards, clinics, operating rooms, warehouses, and other locations, including remote sites.
Prepare and stock specialty carts as required.
Support wall-to-wall and periodic inventories.
Clean assigned areas according to aseptic principles and infection control guidelines.
Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and VA-provided identification badges.
Adhere to all VA policies, including restrictions on personal electronic device use.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
Minimum 1 year of recent experience in medical supply processing, storage, and distribution
Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently
Knowledge of sterile and unsterile medical supplies and equipment
Physical ability to stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during work shift
Familiarity with automated inventory management systems preferred
Experience with barcoding inventory control systems preferred
Knowledge of aseptic techniques and proper cleaning procedures

The medical supply technician is responsible for managing the inventory, sanitation, distribution, and maintenance of medical supplies and equipment within the healthcare facility. This is a fulltime position and the approximate hours are 4PM - 6:00 AM (14-hour shifts) M-F Shift, Sat - Sun Shift.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Follow established protocols and procedures for sterilizing medical instruments and equipment and adhere to strict safety protocols and infection control measures.
Operate sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, and chemical sterilizers.
Monitor sterilization cycles and ensure that all instruments are processed according to regulatory standards.

Keep detailed maintenance records, schedules, and maintain accurate records of all medical supplies and equipment.

Proven experience in decontamination, cleaning, preparation, sterilization, and storage procedures.
Knowledge of aseptic techniques.
Skilled in operating a washer-sterilizer, ultrasonic instrument cleaners, and gas and steam sterilizers.
Attention to detail and ability to follow strict protocols and procedures.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work with a diverse employee population including all levels of management and staff.
Education and Experience:
Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in courses such as medical supply processing, storage, and distribution; sterile supplies, operating room, and surgical technician courses; or other fields related to the position.
Certification as a sterileprocessingtechnician (e.g., Certified Registered Central Service Technician - CRCST) is a plus.
Previous experience working in a hospital or other medical facility that is responsible for maintaining and repairing the medical equipment.
