Job Summary
The Sterile Processing Technician I ensures the availability of clean, sterilized, and properly functioning surgical instruments and equipment for operating rooms and procedural areas. The Endoscopy Technician performs a variety of duties related to the care of patients, care and maintenance of GI Flexible Endoscopes and Accessories, and provides technical support to the nursing staff and physicians of the Endoscopy Unit.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs care and maintenance of GI Endoscopes.
Performs set up and breakdown of procedures in GI procedure rooms according to procedural and/or physician requirements.
Provides intra-procedure assistance to nurses and physicians performing routine, advanced and emergent procedures in the GI Lab but also OR, critical care units, and emergency care unit.
Assists with transport of patients between pre/post procedure area, procedure rooms and patient care areas.
Clean, disinfect or calibrate scopes and other endoscopic instruments according to manufacturer recommendations and facility standards.
Maintain working inventories of endoscopic equipment and supplies.
Anticipate physician needs to ensure excellent patient care and safety throughout the endoscopic procedure.
Provide the patient with physical and emotional support throughout their encounter.
Troubleshoot issues pertaining to endoscopes as well as all instruments used during the procedure.
Assists with ordering and restocking of supplies.

Summary
Is responsible for the direct proper handling and storage of supplies and equipment used for patient care. Processes all instrumentation through decontamination to terminal sterilization.
Job Duties
Demonstrates ability to safely operate steam, sterilizers, sonic, washer/sterilizer, washer/decontaminator, and heat-sealing equipment.
In the absence of Supervisor, directs departmental activities on a rotating basis.
Maintains compliance with JCAHO, State, and other regulatory agencies.
Maintains event related sterility program, rotates supplies weekly. Monitors, restocks, and rotates supplies on crash carts, G.U. carts and OR supply cart.
Maintains inventory in the department through weekly ordering, replenishing par level items. Monitors back ordered supplies and coordinate replacements with Materiel Management when necessary.
Performs all other duties as required in relation to function.
Prepares General Stores and vendor requisitions. Compares stock supplies ordered versus supplies received. Verifies special order supplies upon receipt from vendor and/or General Stores.
Processes hospital-wide instruments through decontamination into prep and pack for terminal sterilization. Pays close attention to all items and their appropriate form of sterilization. Strings instruments and complete instrument count slip. Replaces missing instruments as indicated.
Processes instruments/equipment by decontaminating, packaging, sterilizing and/or storing in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Provides any/all supplies to any age/patient population.
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
Trains new personnel.
