As a SwimInstructor at the Wisconsin & Upper Michigan Division Salvation Army Kroc Center, you'll lead both group and private lessons, ensuring swimmers of all ages and skill levels progress and thrive in the water.
Lessons are held Monday - Thursday from 4:30 pm - 6:35 pm, Thursdays from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm and Saturday 9:00am - 12:00 pm . Flexible scheduling! Work as little as 1 shift a week if that fits your schedule. SwimInstructor pay rate is $15.84/hour. An additional $1.00/hour is paid if you also work as a certified Lifeguard. A shift differential of $1.00 per hour is paid for all shifts worked from 4:00 pm Friday through Sunday.

SUMMARY/PRIMARY PURPOSE: The SwimInstructor will be responsible for planning and teaching group and private lessons at the Wisconsin & Upper Michigan Division Salvation Army Kroc Center.

Instruct assigned classes according to guidelines and swim level.
Adapt teaching approaches to the age, experience level, and ability of participants so that they meet course objectives.
Prepare progressive lesson plans which will enhance the experience of program participants.
Evaluate student learning, and record progress.
Provide regular and timely evaluation feedback to students and parents (if applicable).
Complete records and reports in a timely manner and return them to the Aquatics Manager and/or Aquatics Coordinator.
Educate patrons and enforce all pool rules.
Participate in designated staff training and professional development courses, including regular in-service training sessions.
Ensure the attractive appearance, function and general upkeep of the aquatics facilities including equipment and furnishings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1+ years of swim lesson experience with a wide variety of ages and abilities is strongly preferred.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: American Red Cross Adult/Child/Infant CPR/AED/First Aid (or equivalent) is required within 60 days of hire; American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) is preferred.

For other duties of this job, such as outdoor special events and community center activities, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
The noise level in the work environment at these events is usually moderate to loud.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

SKILLS AND TRAINING

Six months' experience working or volunteering with children, especially in a small-group setting is preferred.
Must be able to correctly demonstrate and assess swim skills both on the deck and in the water; know the sequence of swimming stages. Training will be provided.

You are going to get wet! Instructors must be willing to teach in the pool.
WSI certification or YMCA swim lesson instructor certification is extremely beneficial.

Must be able to correctly demonstrate and assess swim skills both on the deck and in the water; know the sequence of swimming stages. Training will be provided.
The ability to communicate with, motivate, and evaluate all ages and swim levels of students is essential.
You are going to get wet! Instructors must be willing to teach in the pool.
WSI certification or YMCA swim lesson instructor certification is extremely beneficial.
Part of the onboarding process will involve required training in current YMCA curriculum.
Due to the instructional nature of the position, the instructor must actively lead and demonstrate skills. This will require the significant use of hands, arms and body.
