ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Instructs all levels of swim lessons in the learn-to-swim program according to StarGuard Elite and TPRD's curriculum.
Constantly is alert and aware of the whereabouts of class members when teaching class.
Completes all paperwork and student progress reports in a neat and timely manner; submits appropriate course records at the conclusion of each session, in accordance with StarGuard Elite Guidelines.
Attends and participates in monthly staff meetings and instructor in-service trainings.
Prevents accidents through correct teaching techniques and procedures.
Maintains order in class, foresees possible trouble, and takes steps to prevent trouble.
Maintains cleanliness and organization in the pool area by putting away all equipment in the proper location at the end of each shift.
Maintains an acceptable appearance at all times in both uniform and personal hygiene.
Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers through a variety of communication methods including over the telephone and in-person.
Establishes and maintains a working environment conducive to positive morale and teamwork.
Must maintain a positive and friendly attitude while engaged in stressful and/or controversial situations with patrons and co-workers
Learns, understands, and follows the established TPRD core values and mission statement.
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Knowledge of principles and techniques of teaching all levels through StarGuard Elite training.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Aquatics Supervisor, Aquatics Coordinator, Lifeguards, District staff, and the general public.
Possess skills to maintain a safe environment and performing quality work.
Ability to manage the public in all situations including emergencies.
Must have good oral and written communication skills.
Be conscious of maintaining a safe environment.
Have reliable transportation or a means to make it to work shifts on time.
Must be available to work a minimum of 10-15 hours a week including nights and weekends.
Be able to understand, comprehend, and follow all written policies and procedures.
Ability to comprehend all directions given by management and to complete them in compliance.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Physical and Environmental Standards:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors in a busy aquatic environment where noise and interruptions prevail. Ability to safely extricate individuals of varying weight from a pool, with or without assistance, at any given time. Work will also be performed in different types of conditions including, but not limited to, heat, sun, humidity, snow, rain and wind. Must be able to frequently sit, walk, stand, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, push or pull. Must be able to stand/ walk/ rove for extended periods of time, up to 8 hours per shift. Manual dexterity is needed to perform the functions of this position. The ability to talk and hear through face-to-face communication is needed. Vision requirements include near and far acuity. Upper body strength is a requisite to lift/ remove a maximum of 25 pounds unassisted and 100 pounds with assistance.

Under the direction of the Aquatics Supervisor, the Private SwimInstructor is responsible for the overall execution and instruction of District learn to swim programs including, but not limited to, parent & tot, preschool, youth, and adult level classes for the Trails Recreation Center. SwimInstructors are expected to create a safe, open, and positive environment and always conduct themselves in the utmost professional manner and treat the public and co-workers with fairness, equality, and respect.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The examples of duties below are not intended to be all inclusive:
Instructs all levels of swim lessons in the learn-to-swim program according to StarGuard Elite and Trails Park and Recreation District's curriculum.
Constantly is alert and aware of the whereabouts of class members when teaching class.
Completes all paperwork and student progress reports in a neat and timely manner; submits appropriate course records at the conclusion of each session, in accordance with StarGuard Elite guidelines.
Attends and participates in monthly staff meetings and instructor in-service trainings.
Prevents accidents through correct teaching techniques and procedures.
Maintains order in class, foresees possible trouble, and takes steps to prevent trouble.
Maintains cleanliness and organization in the pool area by putting away all equipment in the proper location at the end of each shift.
Maintains an acceptable appearance at all times in both uniform and personal hygiene.
Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers through a variety of communication methods including over the telephone and in-person.
Establishes and maintains a working environment conducive to positive morale and teamwork.
Must maintain a positive and friendly attitude while engaged in stressful and/or controversial situations with patrons and co-workers
Learns, understands, and follows the TPRD and Trails Recreation Center established Core Values and Mission statement.
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Knowledge of principles and techniques of teaching all levels through StarGuard Elite training.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Aquatics Supervisor, Aquatics Coordinator, Lifeguards, District staff, and the general public.
Possess skills to maintain a safe environment and performing quality work.
Ability to manage the public in all situations including emergencies.
Must have good oral and written communication skills.
Be conscious of maintaining a safe environment.
Have reliable transportation or a means to make it to work shifts on time.
Must be available to work a minimum of 10-15 hours a week including nights and weekends.
Be able to understand, comprehend, and follow all written policies and procedures.
Ability to comprehend all directions given by management and to complete them in compliance.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Ability to move about the building and grounds in a quick manner.
May require long periods of standing.
Ability to stand, reach, climb and stoop or kneel.
Ability to talk and/or hear language from patrons, managers, or groups of people.
Ability to lift, carry, transport aquatics equipment or other objects up to 50 lbs assisted.

The University of Denver is seeking motivated and qualified Lifeguard Instructors to start classes beginning in January 2026. Lifeguard Instructors play a crucial role in the safety and health of the DU community. not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.
Essential Functions
* Prepare for and successfully instruct Red Cross Blended Lifeguarding courses (AP-HSSAQU402-BL-r.24, Lifeguarding-BL) at the Daniel L. Ritchie Center.
* Instruct all classes in accordance with American Red Cross and University of Denver policies and procedures.
* Collaborate with other Lifeguard Instructors on materials, scheduling, etc.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Willingness to learn and comply with our facility specific health and safety procedures.
* Ability to sit, stand, speak, and swim for extended periods of time.
* Ability to communicate efficiently and professionally with other faculty, staff, and patrons.
Required Qualifications
* A Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Certification, or willingness to obtain one.
Preferred Qualifications
* Previous lifeguard instructor training.
* Previous lifeguarding or aquatics experience.
Work Schedule
Classes occur on weekends, from once to twice a month. Class schedule is as follows:
* Friday - 5:00pm-8:30pm
* Saturday - 8:30am-6:00pm
* Sunday - 8:30am-6:00pm
