Are you passionate about swimming and love helping young athletes thrive? The YMCA of Greater Augusta is hiring a Swim Team Assistant Coach to work alongside our Head Coach in developing confident, skilled, and motivated swimmers. This is a great opportunity to support youth development while modeling YMCA core values.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Assist the Head Coach with leading structured and engaging swim practices.
Provide direct instruction and feedback to swimmers of all skill levels.
Coach at swim meets-helping with warm-ups, relays, and on-deck support.
Foster a safe, inclusive, and team-focused environment that reflects YMCA values.
Communicate with swimmers, parents, and YMCA staff regarding schedules and progress.
Stay up to date with current coaching techniques and best practices.
Be ready to jump in (literally and figuratively!) to help where needed on deck and in the water.
What You'll Need to Succeed
Qualifications:
Age 18 or older.
Previous experience as a swim coach or competitive swimmer.
Strong knowledge of swim strokes, technique, and conditioning.
Ability to work with swimmers of all ages and abilities in a team setting.
Effective communicator with a positive, supportive coaching style.
Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel for meets.
Current (or willing to obtain within 60 days): CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.
USA Swimming Coach certification preferred.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
Regular movement on pool decks (indoor and seasonal outdoor environments).
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Must remain alert and safety-focused at all times.
