SwimLabs and SafeSplash Swim Schools Westchester is seeking experienced Swim Instructors and Lifeguards to teach lessons at and run our Westchester locations.
Earn up to $20 - $25/hour
teaching people of all ages how to be safer and stronger in the water.
Qualifications
Qualifications Desired:
1 Year of experience teaching swim lessons OR a competitive swimming background OR a passion for teaching children
Lifeguard certification OR the ability to be certified by your start date
18 Years of age or older AND High School Diploma
Reliable transportation

Are you passionate about working with kids and making a difference? Chelsea Piers is looking for enthusiastic and reliable part-time Swim Instructors to join our growing Swim School team!
This is a great opportunity for students or individuals looking for extra work in the evenings or on weekends. Our ideal candidates are positive, dependable, and passionate about working with children. Instructors should be available to teach at least one weekday evening (4:00 PM - 6:00 PM) and one weekend morning (8:00 AM - 12:00 PM) throughout our 12-week trimester. Classes range from 30 to 40 minutes, and instructors will play a key role in helping children build the confidence and skills needed for a lifetime of enjoyment in the water. Primary Responsibilities
Instruct swim classes with energy, enthusiasm, and a clear, animated presence that engages swimmers of all levels.
Demonstrate punctuality by setting up your teaching area ahead of time, checking in at the front desk for any updates, and beginning and ending each class promptly.
Apply knowledge of swim technique and water safety; a background in competitive swimming or teaching lessons is helpful but not required.
Follow the Chelsea Piers Swim School curriculum and be able to demonstrate in-water drills and the four competitive strokes confidently.
Manage class structure effectively based on swimmers' skill levels, and communicate technical points clearly and age-appropriately.
Be a team player - support your fellow instructors and be flexible in adjusting to different class needs or pool assignments.
Prepare for each class by knowing your students, tracking their progress, and keeping tidy, accessible notes.
Complete progress reports and report cards by program deadlines to provide valuable feedback to families.
Compensation: $18 - $24 per hour, depending on experience
Schedule: Part-time; Ideally one weekday evening and one weekend morning per week. Classes run about 30-40 minutes from 4:00pm-6:00pm on weekday evenings; 8:00am-12:00pm on weekend mornings.
Qualifications
Comfortable and confident working with children of all ages and abilities
Prior experience as a competitive swimmer or teaching swim lessons is preferred, but not required
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Exceptional customer service and interpersonal abilities
Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt quickly in a dynamic environment
Capable of multitasking and making thoughtful, timely decisions under pressure
Willingness to work extended hours if needed, including evenings and weekends

Primary Responsibilities:
Provides swim instruction based on the Goldfish Swim School curriculum
Enforces safety rules and regulations to prevent accidents
Evaluates students' progress and completes required documentation in a timely manner
Interacts professionally with parents/guardians after each swim lesson on the activities and development of students' swim skills
Uses problem-solving and creative thinking skills to identify and resolve challenges that students encounter
Assists with setting up the pool prior to lessons and cleaning up after lessons, including proper storage of all pool equipment and lane lines
Attend required/mandatory workshops and in-service training outside of regular working hours
Job Requirements and Skills:
No experience is necessary. With paid training provided, this is a great job for recent high school graduates and/or college students.
Experience as a certified lifeguard, youth sports instructor/coach, camp counselor, and/or childcare provider is a plus!

Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills
Must pass background examinations (included with training)

Maintain proper SafeSplash uniform standards outlined in employee handbook.

Position Qualifications and Requirements:
Previous swim instruction experience is required.
Current American Red Cross CPR-PR/AED, First Aid for adult, swimmer and infant required.
WSI certification preferred.
Special consideration given to instructors with experience teaching swimmers age 6 months to 10 years and Special Needs.
Training in the SafeSplash curriculum will be provided.
Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds in weight.

Maintains a safe, instructional, and supportive environment

* Communicates with membership via phone, email, text and team website
* Attends bi-annual Metropolitan Swimming meetings
* Assists with fundraising activities as needed
* Responds promptly to all swimmer/parent/coach communication
* Other duties as assigned by Head Coach as needed
Preferred qualifications include:
* Coaching membership in good standing with USA Swimming, which includes LGT & CPR
* A college degree (preferred, but not required)
* Coaching experience that illustrates the following traits: organized, good communicator, energetic, team player, takes initiative
* Prior coaching experience working with a USA Swimming Team and Age Group athletes for 3 years
