Under the direction of the Aquatic Director, the Swim Instructor teaches swim techniques, skills and water safety to participants of various ages and skill levels based on YMCA of the USA Aquatics Program Guidelines. Santa Fe College's Upward Bound is a federally funded program designed to provide first generation and/or low-income high school students in Bradford High School with the academic skills and motivation necessary to succeed in their pre-college studies. The program's focus is high school success, persistence and college going culture. Job Description The Upward Bound Part-time Senior Instructional Specialist is responsible for providing supplemental instruction support and homework help to students in a variety of subjects including English (Reading and Writing), Mathematics, History, Social Science, the Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Foreign Languages (Spanish), and Computer Technologies. The schedule includes two Saturdays each month. The successful candidate must have a strong work ethic, as well as a passion for helping students and a commitment to academic success for educationally, disadvantaged youth. The Upward Bound Part-time Instructor must be skilled in the assigned academic discipline of instruction with the ability to deliver a high level of interactive classroom instruction. Roles and Responsibilities Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with British Swim School training and standards Conduct classes in a fun and gentle environment, following current teaching methods, policies and safety and emergency procedures Work a flexible schedule that includes early evenings and weekends Work in an environment where noise levels are usually moderate to high and stand in the water for up to 4 consecutive hours. Qualifications Must be able to work Saturday and/or Sunday morning from 9am to 1pm, and a couple of weeknights from 4pm to 8pm. Must complete all required British Swim School Aquatics specific training and successfully complete the final in water and written exams Must complete Lifeguard, CPR/AED & First Aid training within 90 days of employment Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check

Join us! Provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes. Essential Functions: * Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly. * Develops positive relationships with members and participants and provides motivational support and guidance. * Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers. * Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers members and participants to other programs. * Maintains records as required (i.e., attendance, progress reports, etc.). * Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled. * Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary. * Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment. * Trains and supervises class aides as assigned. * Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention. * Ensures the health and safety of all members/guests. * Inspect physical space to ensure the safety, orderliness, sanitation and cleanliness of facilities.
