At JMSS we focus on teaching children of all ages and abilities to learn how to be safer, in and around the water. We are looking for fun, positive people who love to work with kids! As a swiminstructor you are responsible for the safety of each class and teaching swim skills from the basics to our advanced swimmers using our curriculum. You will work to build water confidence within your students and encourage each student to rise to the best of their abilities. You can expect to be regularly communicating with students and fellow staff members as well as ongoing training throughout your employment.
We offer swim lessons from the age of 6 month - 13 years old and have lessons from parent/child to our pre-competitive swim team. Paid hands on training is provided for all instructors starting at $13 an hour and the opportunity for growth within our company.

Position Qualifications and Requirements:
Previous swim instruction experience is required.
Current American Red Cross CPR-PR/AED, First Aid for adult, swimmer and infant required.
WSI certification preferred.
Special consideration given to instructors with experience teaching swimmers age 6 months to 10 years and Special Needs.
Training in the SafeSplash curriculum will be provided.
Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds in weight.
Uniforms:Instructors are required to wear SafeSplash uniforms which include logoed female one piece suits and male board shorts. SafeSplash Swim School will cover 50% of the cost of one uniform per calendar year per employee. Additional uniforms must be purchased by the employee from SafeSplash Swim School at or below cost. The uniform must be maintained in a clean, professional manner. If at any time a supervisor determines an employee's uniform is inappropriate he/she may require the employee to purchase an additional uniform. If at any time a uniform is not being worn during assigned instructing hours a supervisor will ask you to put on your uniform. If no uniform is present you will be required to buy a new uniform or be sent home without pay. The YMCA SwimInstructor is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading swim lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines. This role ensures a safe and positive learning environment for participants of all ages and skill levels while promoting water safety and confidence in swimming.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.

What we are looking for
Plano Parks and Recreation is looking for individuals who enjoy being in the water and want to have fun while sharing information on how to help students learn how to swim or improve on their swimming skills. We are looking for individuals who are comfortable with talking to students that range in age from infants to adults.
Summary of Duties: Under basic supervision, the Water Safety Instructor I is responsible for planning and instructing swimming lessons in accordance with City and department policies.
Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the entry-level classification in the Water Safety Instructor series. The incumbent follows routine procedures and guidelines in the application of prescribed duties and works under close supervision with work frequently reviewed by a superior. This classification is distinguished from the Water Safety Instructor II in that the latter performs more complex technical duties requiring a higher level of knowledge and skill.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in and around City pools and facilities; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work; to demonstrate swimming and safety techniques; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, twist and reach when teaching and maintaining pool area. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.
Employees work in and around City pools and facilities and are exposed to loud noise levels, hot temperatures, chemical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes.
