Maintain consistency and reliability in attendance and scheduling. Follow Aqua-Tots' established safety protocols and curriculum standards. Participate in required training and professional development. Qualifications Prior experience working with children with disabilities (educational, therapeutic, or caregiving setting). Strong interpersonal skills with patience, empathy, and adaptability. Ability to provide positive reinforcement and encouragement to students. No prior swim instruction required; training will be provided. Must be dependable and maintain 90% attendance throughout employment. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary. Responds immediately to all emergency situations using proper procedures/techniques. Performs a safe rescue for a participant in trouble and administers the necessary First Aid and completes reports. Maintains tidiness of pool and deck area (including gutters) during shift- Checks for band-aids, tissues, hair, etc. on deck and in drains and filter baskets. Never leaves equipment on deck after classes. Equipment must always be stacked neatly to avoid any accidents. Maintains positive relations and rapport with members, staff and volunteers at all times. Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers. Communicates proper placement to parents regularly. Supports other staff and volunteers through good communications skills. Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled and required Act as representative of the YMCA of the Foothills at all times. Burbank Recreation Center, Saturdays, 9 am - 11 am, and Sundays, 10 am - 12:30 pm. Santa Monica Swim Center, Wednesdays and Fridays, 4 pm - 7 pm. We teach kids with special needs, such as: ADD & ADHD Anxiety Autism Spectrum (verbal/nonverbal) Down and CHARGE syndrome Sensory integration issues Auditory processing disorders Amputation Cerebral Palsy Spina Bifida Spinal cord injury Obesity and any other disability - Conduct adaptive US Paralympic swim lessons for individuals or small groups of all ages and skill levels, - Create and implement lesson plans tailored to the needs and abilities of each student - Teach proper swimming techniques, including strokes, breathing, and water safety, in accordance with the US Swimming Association and US Paralympics Committee - Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to help students improve their swimming skills using the Growth Mindset approach - Ensure a safe and positive learning environment for all participants, - Monitor and manage student behavior during lessons, - Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance Requirements: - Previous experience working with students, preferably in a swim instruction or coaching role, - Strong swimming skills and knowledge of various swimming techniques; current or former competitive swimming experience required - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles, for cognitive and physical disabilities - Knowledge of behavior management techniques for working with children - Background check may be required Qualifications Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification Current or former Competitive Swimmer (High School or College) Knowledge of water hazards, pool safety, first aid and appropriate safety precautions and procedures Ability to analyze situations, react appropriately, remain calm and efficient in caring for problems Successful water skills test prior to hire Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions; visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the ability to act swiftly in an emergency; ability to tolerate high humidity and exposure to chlorine. #hc116686
