The Mystic Valley YMCA Aquatics Department is hiring part time swim instructors for group swim classes. Salary Range: $16.00 To $18.00 Hourly About the Classes All group classes have a standard curriculum and run for 6 to 8-week sessions. Classes run Tuesday through Saturday. Parent with Child classes are for ages 6 months to 3 years and their parents/guardians. Instructors lead the adults in teaching the children to explore body positions, floating, blowing bubbles, and fundamental safety and aquatic skills. Preschool classes are for children between the ages of 3 and 6. There are 4 levels, each building upon the previous class ranging from Water Acclimation to Stroke Introduction. Youth classes are for children aged 6 to 17 years. There are 6 levels ranging from Water Acclimation to Stroke Mechanics. Duties and Responsibilities: Provide swim instructions based on the set curriculum. Enforce safety rules and regulations. Evaluates students' progress, take attendance, complete progress reports every session for each student Ensure every child connects with their guardian after class. Interact with parents/guardians and Aquatics Director on child's skills and progress. Set up and put away all materials used for each class. Reports accidents and incidents to management. The swimming test consists of 1 lap (25 meters) of each of the following: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, side stroke, elementary backstroke, in addition to 2 minutes treading without the use of arms. CORI/SORI screening Paid training provided; training consists of shadowing current classes. Training for CPR certification must be completed after hire. The Swim Instructor I, under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, provides safe, motivational and knowledgeable instruction to members & program participants. The instructor is responsible for the safety and proper instruction of class participants. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Never take your eyes off your class. Never leave your children unattended. Safety is your highest priority. Provide safe, competent aquatic instruction using nationally recognized guidelines established by the YMCA of the USA. Be alert/attentive so as to prevent accidents. Respond quickly, intelligently, and decisively and in accordance with YMCA established emergency and accident management procedures. Teach with encouragement and positive reinforcement. Must have considerable ability as a swimmer. Maintain constant surveillance of class participants to ensure a safe and positive environment. Enforce all pool rules in a consistent, courteous and fair manner. Educate family users of the purpose and need for the rules as a professional. Instructors must set up for their classes and return equipment afterwards. Maintain and attendance and skill accomplishment records for class participants.
