POSITION SUMMARY:
The SwimInstructor is responsible for conducting swim lessons for both group and one-on-one private swim lessons. Lessons are conducted in the morning hours and may also be offered in the evening.
The SwimInstructor is responsible for instructing and developing athletes. This role involves designing and implementing training programs, providing instruction and feedback, and fostering a positive and competitive environment for athletes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
Teaching relevant skills, tactics, and techniques to a wide range of athletes, individuals, and groups
Instruct and coach children while they engage in group and individual sports activities
Prepare and lead a variety of activities that are age-appropriate
Monitoring, evaluating, and enhancing participant performance and needs
Providing suitable feedback via positivity, encouragement, example, and motivation
Demonstrating an activity clearly by breaking down the task or technique into a sequence
Friendly and courteous with participants and team members
Identifying athlete strengths and areas for development
Ensuring a safe environment for all participants to avoid accidents or injuries
Prepare and sign all certificates and course record sheets
Implementing the lesson plans in an accurate, creative, positive, and efficient fashion
Ensure proper use and care of pool equipment and teaching aids
Report any maintenance or safety issues to management
All additional duties assigned by management
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS:
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
American Red Cross Lifeguard and First Aid, CRP/AED Certified
Experience and success in customer service, leadership, and team building
Action-oriented personality with a 'get it done' attitude and proficiency for efficiency
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
2-3 years' experience of swim lessons instruction is preferred
Strong swimming ability and knowledge of different swimming techniques
Must have excellent interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills
Must be a team player
Must have excellent leadership and motivational skills
Must be detail-oriented and have outstanding organizational skills
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, predominately after-school and weekends
Ability to maintain focus in a high-volume, fast paced environment

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to lift 50 pounds waist high

Our Water Safety Instructor II's are critical to the success of our Learn-to-Swim programs. Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the journey-level classification in the Water Safety Instructor series that follows diversified procedures and implements processes to accomplish end results, within guidelines. Immediate supervision is available upon request.

Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of: Current swimming techniques; CPR and first aid; water safety policies, rules, and practices; teaching methods and techniques.
Skill in: Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; demonstrating all swimming strokes; interacting tactfully and effectively with the public; administering first aid and CPR; demonstrating water safety skills.
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience as a Water Safety Instructor.
Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements
Licenses and Certifications: American Red Cross issued: First Aid, CPR, Automated External Defibrillator, Water Safety Instructor, and Lifeguard certifications required at the time of appointment.
Conditions of Employment: Must pass a drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in and around City pools and facilities; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work; to demonstrate swimming and safety techniques; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job involves frequent walking to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator. Plano Parks and Recreation is looking for Water Safety Instructors. Below is a listing of the primary job responsibilities:
* Ensures the safety of class participants.
* Plans and instructs swimming lessons; records class attendance.
* Maintains class attendance and course records.
* Responds to questions regarding swim lessons.
What we are looking for
TMC is looking for individuals who enjoy being in the water and want to have fun while sharing information on how to help students learn how to swim or improve on their swimming skills. We are looking for individuals who are comfortable with talking to students that range in age from infants to adults. This person must also be able to swim all 4 strokes and be capable of talking and interacting with participants, parents, and staff.

Summary of Duties: Under basic supervision, the Water Safety Instructor I is responsible for planning and instructing swimming lessons in accordance with City and department policies.
Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the entry-level classification in the Water Safety Instructor series. The incumbent follows routine procedures and guidelines in the application of prescribed duties and works under close supervision with work frequently reviewed by a superior. This classification is distinguished from the Water Safety Instructor II in that the latter performs more complex technical duties requiring a higher level of knowledge and skill.
Examples of ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Illustrative Only)
Management reserves the rights to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.
* Ensures the safety of class participants.
* Plans and instructs swimming lessons; records class attendance.
* Maintains class attendance and course records.
* Promotes public relations with facility users and outside organizations by presenting water safety seminars to requesting groups.
* Responds to questions regarding swim lessons.
* Completes general housekeeping duties in the aquatic facility.
* Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
Marginal Duties:
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Decisions: The incumbent must effectively interpret and implement the Red Cross curriculum and guidelines to match those of the department, and be able to exercise good judgment to ensure a safe environment for participants.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of: American Red Cross Water Safety curriculum and CPR.
Skill in: Communicating clearly both verbally and in writing; demonstrating all swimming strokes; interacting tactfully and effectively with the public.
Education: Must be at least 16 years of age.
Experience: No previous experience required.
Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements
Licenses and Certifications: American Red Cross issued Water Safety Instructor certification. American Red Cross CPR and First Aid certification.
Conditions of Employment: Must pass a drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in and around City pools and facilities; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work; to demonstrate swimming and safety techniques; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job involves frequent walking to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, twist and reach when teaching and maintaining pool area. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.
Employees work in and around City pools and facilities and are exposed to loud noise levels, hot temperatures, chemical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes.
