Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Swim Instructor/Lifeguard, multi-tasks on an ongoing basis but not limited to include: plan, organize, lead and/or assist, lifeguard and supervise various diversified and adaptive recreational activities for a variety of disabled individuals and customer groups of all ages. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Depending on assignment, must possess strength, stamina and mobility to work indoors in an office setting/recreational facility or to perform required work out doors including: frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and walking on uneven surfaces; lifting up to 40 pounds with occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; use of standard office equipment and/or recreation equipment including a computer and handheld devices; constant use of overall vision; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone and/or radio. ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS
Employees may work in the field and are occasionally exposed to loud noise levels, cold and/or hot temperatures, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards. Incumbents may be exposed to blood and body fluids rendering First Aid and CPR are required to wear appropriate attire for the recreation activity to which they are assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting. The Trefethen Aquatic Center is looking for new Lifeguards and Swim Instructors to add to their aquatic team. All staff members are expected to work as both a Lifeguard and a Swim Instructor.
Responsibilities:
Arrive to work on-time and properly attired to perform duties.
Enforce facility rules and follow policies and procedures.
Open and Close the pool according to guidelines set by the Trefethen Aquatics Center.

Takes initiative to ensure safety in the facility.

Anticipate, recognize, and react to all aquatic emergencies, and provide necessary reporting to direct supervisor.
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time while maintaining optimum scanning vigilance of the pool.
Must follow all policies and procedures set forth in the Mills College Aquatic Center Staff Policy Handbook.
Maintain a professional demeanor during scheduled shift.
Uphold a standard of care in all aquatic emergencies.
Respond to all aquatic emergencies as described by the Emergency Action Plan.
If needed, finds an appropriate approved staff member to substitute for scheduled shift at least 24 hours prior to scheduled shift.
Be able and ready to sell swim passes and swim gear at the Front Desk.
