Swim Instructor Responsibilities

Job Description
The Recreation Department is seeking an individual to perform professional work in the safety and use of swimming pool(s), involving teaching all levels of swimming skills to individuals ranging from infants to senior citizens, assists in coordinating various aquatics programs and facility maintenance as needed, greets general public, answers questions and collects fees and registrations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Except as specifically noted, the following functions are considered essential to this position. The listed examples may not include all duties found in this class):
1.Patrolling of the pool. Maintain and enforce safety rules and regulations. Organize and conduct safety and rescue drills.
2.Teach all levels of swimming skills to individuals ranging from infants to senior citizens.
3.Attend to many items simultaneously, and/or in sequence.
4.Greet public using the aquatic facilities.
5.Participate in the patrolling of the pool.
6.Receive user's fees and handle cash drawer.
7.Collect fees for memberships, lockers, and facility use.

General Statement of Job Under frequent supervision, provides effective and skillful swim instruction services for the Bob Makinson Aquatic Center, and assists in maintaining BMAC facilities and pools. Nights & weekends as required, no set schedule. Reports to the Recreation & Leisure Services Supervisor - Aquatics and/or Recreation Specialist.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Provides supervision for students attending swim lessons by organizing and conducting classes according to the policies and procedures published by Jeff Ellis Swimming and the City of Kissimmee.
Responsible for administrative work including student progress reports, lessons plans, attendance records and other administrative work as needed.
Inspects the pool area, grounds, facilities and equipment for safety and proper condition.
Monitors the activities and behavior of swim lesson participants; ensures compliance with all safety policies and procedures. Assists swimmers in danger, and performs CPR and provides First Aid as necessary.
Prepares accident/incident reports as required.
Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints of citizens regarding BMAC programs and policies.
Operates a variety of pool equipment, including pool vacuums, pumps, and controller. Uses oxygen tank and various CPR/AED/First Aid/First Responder equipment. Exercises care and safety in the use and maintenance of assigned equipment and tools.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, lifeguards, swim participants, guests (children, parents, adults), Ellis & Associate Personnel, volunteers, and the general public.
Performs general pool and facility maintenance tasks. Cleans the pool deck, slides, windows, etc.; removes trash and debris. Performs general custodial and grounds maintenance tasks as necessary.
Performs general administrative/office duties as required; including attending meetings, assisting customers, answering the telephone, entering computer data, copying, and filling documents, faxing information, etc. Conducts registration for programs for the facility as well as collects fees and maintains records of moneys received; Rec Trac, as needed.
Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Education and Training
Must be at least fifteen (15) years of age. Requires a junior high school diploma supplemented by a combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. High School graduate preferred. Must possess or have the ability to obtain within 1 month of hire; Jeff Ellis Swimming Instructor Certification and CPR/AED/First Aid certifications. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License or Florida ID. Must possess or obtain the most current FEMA 100, 200, and 700 Incident Command System certifications within 6 months of appointment to the job.
Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required
Schedule: Hours and schedule varies depending on the time of the year, not to exceed on average of 28 hours per week. Nights, weekends and early mornings may be required.
Knowledge of Job: Has through knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the Parks & Recreation Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the swim instructor. Is knowledgeable in the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Has knowledge of swim instructing requirements as set forth by Jeff Ellis Swimming. Is able to work in adverse conditions, including exposure to extreme heat or cold, wetness, humidity, pollen, disease, machinery hazards, harmful rays of the sun, noise, toxic agents, water hazards, etc. Has knowledge of applicable occupational hazards, and safety precautions. Is able to conduct thorough safety inspections and to determine and resolve unsafe conditions. Knows how to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations. Has the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize daily assignments and work activities. Has the ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency. Is able to read and interpret various materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job. Is able to prepare simple records and reposts. Is able to perform requires mathematical calculations with accuracy. Has knowledge of the terminology used within the department. Knows how to maintain effective relationships with personnel of other departments, professionals and members of the public through contact and cooperation.

We are looking for HIGHLY ENERGETIC, CONFIDENT AND ENTHUSIASTIC individuals to join our growing team to conduct exciting science, engineering, and technology programs during after-school and morning time slots. You do NOT need to be a certified teacher (although we love that!).
Responsibilities:
- Facilitating day camps, in-person workshops, and after-school science enrichment programs for children from preschool through elementary school
- Deliver high-energy, part entertainment, part education, hands-on programs that meet for one hour each week for approximately 8-12 weeks.
- Drive to various locations across southern Maine. Some programming takes place in northern parts of New Hampshire and northern, coastal Maine.
- Enjoy teaching young children the art of science!
- Attend paid training sessions virtually and/or at our office.
- Attend the mandatory Friday Staff Meeting every week (paid).

Statement of Duties: This position is responsible for serving as a Swim Lesson Instructor at the town swimming pool, the operation and cleanliness of the pool and the adjoining facility in a safe and effective manner; teach swimming lessons, collects fees, responding to customer inquiries and providing information pertaining to the operation of the pool as necessary. Attend training programs in order to maintain certification requirements of the position.
Supervision Required: Under general supervision of the Aquatic Supervisors, the employee is familiar with the work routine and carries out recurring assignments independently with specific instruction. The supervisor provides additional, specific instruction for new, difficult or unusual assignments, including suggested work methods. The employee is expected to recognize instances which are out of the ordinary and which do not fall within existing instructions; the employee is then expected to seek advice and further instructions. Supervisor reviews and checks of the employee's work and methods used are technically accurate and that instructions are being followed.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

CCLC Site Coordinator
JOB GOAL: To provide services and activities that help students improve in academics, attendance, behavior, social connections, promotion rates and graduation rates.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain effective communication with the 21st CCLC Site Coordinator and/or school personnel at assigned site.
Follow direction of 21st CCLC Site Coordinator or other manager(s) with respect to Conway School District policies and procedures, and adhere to program requirements.
Lead, participate in and take responsibility for before and/or afterschool program activities at assigned site.
Assists in recording/managing of student attendance and data
Participate in out-of-school time program planning and design.
Attend staff meetings.
Assists the site coordinator in providing a safe and secure environment for after-school program participants.
Monitors student behavior and notifies site coordinator of any issues.
Reports all incidents regarding students, staff and/or any unauthorized visitors to site coordinator.
Meet with parents, students and community members; communicate in a respectful and confidential manner.
Perform routine first aid and seek assistance for serious illness/injury.
Identify needed supplies and resources, and inform 21st CCLC Site Coordinator.
Participate in professional development and program-related training activities.
Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: In accordance with contract.
WORK YEAR: 36 weeks during academic year (180 days), optional 5 weeks during summer (25 days)
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Conway School Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel. The Site Coordinator will be the evaluator.

Watercolor, acrylic painting and/or drawing instructor wanted to teach art classes at the Michaels store in Biddeford!
This is a part-time, permanent position. This is a great opportunity for an artist who would like to be able to offer classes, but does not have their own studio space to do so.
We are looking for instructors who:
-have the ability to paint and/or draw realistically
-have the ability
to teach
realistic, acrylic painting, watercolor and/or drawing classes
-have the willingness to market their classes and build their own student base
Compensation:
FREE Basics: MAKE A Project Classes:
Scheduled
up to one time per month
Hourly rate plus $3 per student
Advanced Classes
: Acrylic Painting, Watercolor and Drawing Classes:
Hourly rate plus $7 per student for 6 students in attendance or less
Hourly rate plus $10 per student for 7 students in attendance or more
*All schedules to be determined between instructor and Michaels store management.
Duration:
Classes are two hours in length.
The goal of each class is for students to leave with a finished painting or drawing.
Certification:
All Grumbacher art instructors who teach classes at Michaels must become certified through Grumbacher.
