Position Summary:
The Checkpoint SecurityOfficer helps maintain campus safety by monitoring access points, verifying identification, and enforcing security policies. Protects campus community members, guests, and property; prevents crime and disorder; identifies and reports safety and security hazards; and confirms that emergency equipment is in working order. Provide Safety and Security during events on Campus that include but are not limited to Bright Star Performances.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Perform foot patrol in campus facilities and on campus grounds for general purposes of crime prevention and security; provide protection of university students, employees, guests and property.
Provide Security for Bright Star Performances in the Fine Arts Center.
Respond to and follow up on complaints, disturbances, and or requests to prevent potentially dangerous situations from occurring on campus property.
Investigate incidents and violations, collect evidence, interview witnesses, and write incident reports.
Identify hazards to safety and security; report them to the Director of Campus Safety.
Monitor surveillance system, fire alarm system, and other emergency notification systems.
Assist in preparing administrative and operational reports and maintaining files of no contact, no trespassing, protection and restraining orders.
Act as a liaison to outside emergency services and law enforcement agencies.
Assist with maintaining organized and effective security operations in the Campus Safety Office.
Conduct and document routine inspections of AEDs, Code Blue emergency phones, elevator emergency phones, fire extinguishers, etc.
Carry out other responsibilities as delegated or assigned.
Will be required to work holidays and cover vacations as needed.
General Requirements/Qualifications:
High school degree or equivalent and prior experience in security field required. Must possess CPR/AED certifications at time of appointment or the ability to obtain such certifications within 6 months of appointment and maintain such certification for the duration of employment. These positions provide armed security services to protect property and persons from sabotage, fire, espionage, theft, vandalism, and other hazards; control entry and exit of all personnel, vehicles and other equipment at entry points to the National Guard Facility or Base; assist and direct visitors; enforce parking regulations; ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations, rules and laws; prepare and maintain records and documents; monitor base alarm systems; and attend training and safety classes.
Salary Information
New hires currently start at $25.38* per hour once they pass the qualification to carry firearms. This starting wage consists of a base pay of $23.38 per hour, plus a $2.00 per hour add-on to the hourly rate for carrying a firearm while on duty. (The employer will provide the required firearm training.) These positions also have Protective Occupation Status within the Wisconsin Retirement System, which is an accelerated retirement benefit.
For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
A 12-month probationary period is required

Identify hazards to safety and security; report them to the Director of Campus Safety.
Monitor surveillance system, fire alarm system, and other emergency notification systems.
Assist in preparing administrative and operational reports and maintaining files of no contact, no trespassing, protection and restraining orders.
Act as a liaison to outside emergency services and law enforcement agencies.
Assist with maintaining organized and effective security operations in the Campus Safety Office.
Conduct and document routine inspections of AEDs, Code Blue emergency phones, elevator emergency phones, fire extinguishers, etc.
Carry out other responsibilities as delegated or assigned.
Will be required to work holidays and cover vacations as needed.

High school degree or equivalent and prior experience in security field required. Must possess CPR/AED certifications at time of appointment or the ability to obtain such certifications within 6 months of appointment and maintain such certification for the duration of employment. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of non-sworn law enforcement support functions which are dependent on the bureau or shift assignment of the individual CSE. Unarmed security officer job in La Crosse, WI
Community Service Officers are primarily responsible for facilitating customer service and public safety via education and outreach efforts within their designated administrative area or state-owned properties such as parks, forests, trails, and other lands managed by the Wisconsin DNR. Specifically, these positions will provide recreation management education, assistance with resource protection, and manage public safety through collaboration with local conservation wardens (law enforcement officers) within the assigned area.
50% Provide education, outreach, and excellent customer service to all resource users
* Educate customers on the safe and wise use of our natural resources and how to recreate safely
* Communicate with the public (via contacts, education programs, etc.) to promote awareness and knowledge of natural resources and state properties
* Educate public regarding natural resources rules; providing information and resources to visitors recreating within assigned areas
* Develop preventative programs and activities to maximize voluntary compliance with rules and regulations using proactive, problem-solving and rule enforcement philosophies
20% Assist law enforcement officers (Conservation Wardens, sheriff departments, police) within assigned area or on DNR managed properties to maintain public safety
* Identify and report public safety issues, concerns, and illegal activity
* Resolve visitor issues and address low-level conflicts between users
* Issue verbal warnings to promote compliance with applicable rules to ensure the safety of visitors
* Perform off-road recreational vehicle checks and education
20% Training and Administrative Duties, to include completing required trainings and reports (expense, time and fleet, financial and business records, etc.)
10% Assist Conservation Wardens in educating users about natural resource laws pertaining to aquatic invasive species and diseases.
Salary Information
These positions pay $21.00 per hour and are in the Natural Resources Educator classification in pay schedule and range 15-04. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
Job Details
This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and will not automatically lead to permanent state employment or be entitled to the same benefits as permanent employees.

Qualifications
In addition to the meeting the minimal qualifications and requirements below, the selected candidate must be eligible to drive a state vehicle and meet the following criteria:
* Have a valid driver's license
* Be at least 18 years of age
* Have a minimum of two years licensed driving experience
* Have not had three (3) or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two (2) years
* Have no OWI/DUI violations within the past year

* Selected candidates must be able to start on May 18th, 2026 and attend a one week training.
