Who you are:
We are looking for an experienced Critical Care Technician to join our Overnight Shift: Wednesday-Saturday (9pm-7am)!
You will be the 'right hand' to our veterinarians on-staff, the helping hands we need to maintain the highest level of care and comfort for our clients' beloved pets. You are dedicated and passionate about enhancing lives through superior pet care. Some of the responsibilities you will own in this role:
Perform nursing care for critical cases, consistently evaluating the patient
Calculating CRI's and providing advanced hospitalization care
Perform in house laboratories
Proficient in IV catheter placement
Give accurate and detailed patient rounds
Perform safe restraint for fractious and frightened patients
Obtain TPR's, keep medical records, understand when to alert DVM
Advocate for the patient and client
Basic Required Qualifications:
High school diploma
2+ years of clinical experience in the veterinary industry
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interface with staff and clients using tact, patience, professional courtesy, and exhibit confidentiality and discretion where appropriate
An active CA state RVT license is preferred but not required

Fill prescriptions, calculate and administer medications, maintain proper documentation, logging, and security of controlled drugs.
Feed patients as prescribed by the attending doctor or as the client has requested; record appetites; recognize and report any unusual conditions or abnormal behaviors
Communicate in a positive manner with clients and ensure that they feel comfortable leaving their pet(s)
Educate clients about insurance, wellness, and medicinal plans
Maintain the cleanliness of the hospital each day; clean equipment, kennels, and facilities using chemicals and supplies; ensure the safe use of chemicals; complete laundry
Bath and care for patients who stay overnight; ensure that every animal released is clean and properly groomed prior to their release
Adhere to the hospital's safety and wellness regulations
Understand and carry out oral and written directions
Maintain accurate medical records
Show up for work regularly; full-time presence at work is essential for every shift
Promote hospital products and services and support the organization
Respond respectfully with urgency to directions given by Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVT).
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Manager; may have other assigned duties if working in a specialty area (i.e., dentistry, surgery, emergency, radiology, cardiology, neurology, internal medicine, etc.)

High school diploma or equivalent

Vet Tech (VTNE) Certification preferred

Provides high quality, low-stress and compassionate medical and surgical care and relating services to Joybound People and Pets' shelter guests, and animals belonging to members of the public via multiple programs. Under supervision of a veterinarian, assists with high volume/high quality spay/neuter, both mobile and onsite, non-spay/neuter surgery, examinations and medical procedures and treatments of Joybound People and Pet's shelter guests and client owned animals. Creates and maintains accurate records reflecting exams, treatments and interventions received via Joybound People and Pets programming.
Principal Duties:
Under the supervision of a veterinarian, administer and monitor anesthesia, provide preventative and basic nursing care, follow treatment protocols, and assist or lead in managing treatment of more urgent medical conditions for Joybound People and Pet's shelter guests and client owned animals.
Perform diagnostic testing including imaging, laboratory tests and in-house diagnostics on shelter guests and client owned animals.
Assist in managing the overall health of the shelter guest population via daily rounds, preventative care, protocols and general monitoring, and ensuring timely communication of any need for intervention(s).

Handle all animals humanely, properly and with compassion, including those that may be sick/injured or have behavioral concerns.
Maintain detailed and accurate patient records across multiple cloud-based software systems, ability to interpret and summarize medical records to make treatment and preventative care decisions. Includes assessment or entry of treatments, protocol implementation, medication(s), and/or histories for shelter guests and client owned animals.
Lead and assist in the admission, assessment, treatment(s) and release of client owned animals from the Joybound's Veterinary Clinic in a responsive, courteous and tactful manner, and inform the client of any pertinent medical information on the animal's care, including proper administration of medications; assist with invoicing and record sharing with clients. Provide medical records to client's regular veterinarian(s) for ongoing support as requested.

Assist in maintaining healthy, safe, sanitary, pleasant and clean facilities, both mobile and on site, for clients and team members as well as animals under Joybound's care.

Requirements

Position Purpose:
The purpose of this position inherently involves providing excellent medical care to our Vetco Total Care full-service hospital patients and phenomenal customer care to their owners. The VeterinaryAssistant represents the mission and values to all clients. Essential Job Functions

Under supervision of the veterinarian and/or veterinary technician, assistants will maintain patients safely under anesthesia while monitoring vital parameters, help monitor patients during recovery and prepare them for hospital discharge or transfer to an overnight care facility.
* Under supervision of the veterinarian and/or veterinary technician, perform in-hospital treatments for sick patients including giving injectable and oral medications as well as intravenous fluid therapy; keep patients clean, watered, and fed (when indicated and directed by doctor), safely walk canine patients when necessary for elimination.
* Under direction of the HOM/HLOD, assist in the training of new staff members and general dissemination of knowledge as required.
* Keep hospital environment neat and clean; perform regular cleaning of environment based on necessity as well as based on a pre-determined maintenance schedule.

Nature of Supervision
In all activities related to the care of individual patients, the incumbent will take direct supervision from the veterinarians as well as the Veterinary Technician.
