BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled VeterinaryAssistant to join our fast-paced emergency + specialty facility at our Brooklyn, NY location. This associate will be cross-trained in ER/ICU and Specialty services!
Schedule: Thursday - Saturday + EO Wednesday 10AM - 10PM
Pay: $22.15 - $32.80 / hour
This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our leveling system.
We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum.
For example:
Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = $4.50/hr. Shift Differential
Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $4.50/hr. Shift Differential
Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $8.00/hr. Shift Differential
Our VeterinaryAssistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going over estimates as needed. In addition, they perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc), setting patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handle client communication. This position also ensures you are cross-trained throughout specialty departments so you are able to float where needed based on caseload demand.
As a VeterinaryAssistant, you will:
Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
Understand classification of commonly-used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
Perform phlebotomy.
Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.

Medical (60%)
* Care for up to 35-40 cats and dogs per day in spay/neuter surgery
* Provide a safe and compassionate environment for animals in our care, our staff, and for our clients by using low-stress handling techniques during various procedures (examples: exams, treatments, injections, venipuncture, intubation)

Medical (60%)
Care for up to 35-40 cats and dogs per day in spay/neuter surgery
Provide a safe and compassionate environment for animals in our care, our staff, and for our clients by using low-stress handling techniques during various procedures (examples: exams, treatments, injections, venipuncture, intubation)
Monitor vital signs of sedated and anesthetized patients in pre-operative, operative, and post-operative phases
Take direction regarding medical protocols and animal care from the clinic veterinarian or veterinary technician
Organize and maintain pre-operative area and operating room for patient anesthesia, surgical preparation and sterilization
Ensure anesthesia machines, pulse oximeters, scales, and other equipment are functional and report equipment that is not working properly
Clean, sonicate, pack, and sterilize surgical instruments and endotracheal tubes
Work with coworkers to clean and disinfect animal areas and facility while utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment
Assist with patient exams, take medical history, perform diagnostic testing, and prepare medications to go home with the client/patient

Key Responsibilities:
Assistveterinary technicians and veterinarians with various tasks, including animal restraint, medication administration, and sample collection.
Maintain a clean and organized clinic/hospital environment by disinfecting surfaces, sanitizing equipment, and cleaning kennels and cages.
