    Job DescriptionAre we the road to your future? We are currently searching for talented CEI Inspectors to support our Carolinas Region statewide in North Carolina. This position welcomes candidates who are willing to commute from South Carolina to work in the state of North Carolina. To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, an Associate's degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution. The successful candidate will perform technical duties supporting engineers and other professionals in the administration of highway construction. Such areas include, construction inspection, project roadway/structure inspection, materials testing, project surveying, and program/regulatory compliance. (This position corresponds with the NCDOT Engineering (Transportation) Technician I & through IV.) What you'll be doing: Inspection for compliance with contract documents, standards, and specifications Testing of materials; review of plans; analysis of engineering-related data; and construction survey/layout Keeping daily diaries on project operations, resolves daily constructability issues and trouble shoots problems to mitigate delays to contractor's progress Monitors contractor's daily operations and performs and/or reviews test reports to ensure that all work and materials conform to specifications, plans and contractual provisions. Also monitors utility relocation efforts by inspecting and tracking relocation work Documenting pay records, performing construction calculation, and computer/iPad entry Anticipates contractual problems and advises supervisor of the need for plan revisions, supplemental agreements, or other contract adjustments to improve safety, timely delivery and/or quality of delivered product Ensures compliance with NC Sedimentation and Pollution Control Act, and that all work performed in permitted areas, is done in accordance with the permits Effectively communicates and coordinates work with contractors, subcontractors, utility owners, and property owners to minimize delays and disturbances while maximizing progress of the projects What you need to have: Associate degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution 0 - 2 years of progressive inspection level experience or equivalent combination of education and experience Possess a valid driver's license Must be able to perform moderate physical activity including but not limited to walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing Must be able to lift 50 lbs. What you'll be doing: Advanced level in-depth safety inspection work as the Team Leader of a 2 man bridge inspection team that conducts inspection on all types of structures in North Carolina Work in an outside environment at considerable heights, exposure to snakes, spiders, insects, and poisonous plants Safety shoes will be required as a condition of employment Responsible for carrying out in-depth inspections on bridges, light standards, culverts, pipes, sign supports, & overhead walkways and preparation of reports detailing conditions found during the inspection process. These reports are used in an evaluation process that determines the structural integrity and the capability of structures to support loads imposed on them by the traveling public and/or natural forces. May also manage discipline and small multidisciplinary teams and ensure adherence to company and project contractual requirements. Performs all other duties as assigned and within scope of practice. Minimum Qualifications: Requires a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent experience. Minimum of 10 years relevant experience. PE License in the State of North Carolina is required, or ability to obtain. Proficient in production software and construction document production. Must possess strong oral and written communications skills. Must have the ability to effectively interact with and build strong relationships with clients, customers, contractors, and other key stakeholders. Thorough knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Design Standards, NCDOT Bridge Design Manual. Proficiency with Microstation is required.
