We are currently searching for an experienced Airport Civil Engineering Practice Lead to support our Southeast Region, located in Florida.
To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
What you'll be doing:
Development of business relationships and securing of work on all types of airports
Development of strategy and oversight of implementation on a wide range of airport projects to include federal and state-funded airport improvement programs, as well as locally funded projects at both public and private use airports
Development of contract specifications and bid estimates
Coordination of engineering design staff and other disciplines to meet objectives
Cooperation with other Volkert disciplines to cross-sell aviation-related services to clients throughout the Southeast Region's footprint
What you need to have:
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or equivalent
10+ years of progressive experience in civil engineering
Registration as a Professional Engineer with the Florida Board of Professional Engineers or ability to obtain registration within 3 months
Design experience on FAA and State DOT aviation projects within an assigned client base
Experience in business development
Ability to hire, manage, and motivate staff
Proven existing relationships with airports in Florida
Management experience with all aspects of a project: grant facilitation, design, bidding, construction administration, and close out to meet project goals on time and on budget
A track record of compliance with the objectives of individual airport master plans, federal grant assurance requirements, FAA and state design standards, and project scopes of work
Knowledge of and experience in the application of FAA Advisory Circulars for airport design and construction, including runways, taxiways, aircraft parking aprons, grading/drainage, and pavement markings
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Proficient knowledge of general office equipment, MS Office, Faarfield, etc.

Organizational Skills: Strong organization and prioritization skills to handle changing tasks and priorities.
Computer Skills: Ability to use computer and other basic office equipment. Ability to use word processing and spreadsheet software for work involving setting up and using spreadsheets, data entry, do basic formatting, including the ability to type quickly and accurately. Commonly used packages include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, Outlook, PrC, and other owner furnished software programs.

The Opportunity
We are seeking a CEI Inspector Trainee for our Transportation-Construction Management (T-CM) practice in the Orlando, Florida area.
This is an entry-level position in which the associate trains under field personnel to learn the concepts of construction observation under the direct supervision of a higher-level senior engineering technician or engineer. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, be a team player, is enthusiastic, motivated, honest, and dependable.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Maintain detailed records of the contractor's daily operations including manpower, equipment, construction methods, and events that affect the work
Perform sampling and testing of component materials and completed work
Verify the dimensions of prepared and completed work
Inspect the construction work and conduct field tests
Track/measure completed work quantities for payment
Perform survey checks
Qualifications:
HS Diploma or equivalent
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
Must have a Valid Driver's License with a good driving record
Must obtain any required certifications and pass appropriate qualifications tests for the position in specified time frames
Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, twist or stoop frequently and for prolonged periods, under various outside conditions
Ability to reach horizontally as well as vertically for required tasks
Ability to use construction or inspection safety equipment including fall protection

This opportunity is seeking a senior level candidate with previous PM experience to work on Aviation related projects with a focus on work at Orlando International Airport. Additional area of focus will be to aid and support across multiple projects to ensure these projects conform to the client's requirements. This position must be capable of implementing the necessary management techniques required to fulfill this responsibility for the specific project.
Essential Functions:
Lead and contribute to the architectural design and development of medium to large-scale projects, applying foundational and advanced architectural concepts. Prepare and review detailed technical documentation, including drawings and specifications. Experience with a range of project types (e.g., commercial, institutional, transportation) is valued.
Work closely with clients to define project requirements and deliver design solutions that meet industry standards and client expectations. Prepare proposals and presentations, demonstrating your ability to address diverse project needs across various sectors.
Manage all aspects of project planning, including scope definition, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation. Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams and external consultants to ensure project milestones are met. Experience in managing projects outside the aviation sector, such as commercial buildings, educational facilities, or large multi-family complexes, are applicable.
Mentor, guide and review the work of junior staff and technical team members to ensure accuracy and compliance with design standards. Conduct quality control reviews and field inspections to ensure alignment with architectural and engineering specifications. Experience in overseeing technical aspects of diverse project types is beneficial. Competency in cross discipline coordination is preferrable.
Oversee project progress, address issues, and make adjustments as needed to maintain alignment with architectural plans and regulatory requirements. Perform site visits and inspections to ensure construction quality and adherence to project specifications. Experience with large-scale projects in various industries will be considered.
Lead and mentor small to medium-sized teams or multidisciplinary groups, promoting effective communication and collaboration throughout all project phases. Experience in leading teams across different project types and sectors is an asset.
Maintain professional registration and stay updated on industry standards, building codes, and regulations. Engage in continuous learning to advance skills in architecture and project management. Knowledge of diverse project types beyond aviation is encouraged.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's of Architecture degree from an accredited university
7+ years or more in design experience. This experience includes working on parts of a major project or multiple moderate-sized projects and proven experience providing technical guidance to entry/junior-level staff and reviewing others' work for technical accuracy.
Registered Architect in good standing, NCARB certification is a plus or the ability to obtain architectural registration in multiple states is desired

Strategic Leadership

Guide long-range planning for vertiports, electric charging infrastructure, and integration with airports and transit systems.
Program Oversight & Governance

Stakeholder Engagement

Provide guidance on procurement strategies and partnership models to accelerate implementation.
To be successful in this role, you must possess:
Infrastructure planning/design experience - airports, vertiports, electrical charging systems or multimodal transit integration.
Bachelor's degree in engineering, planning, public policy, business, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
10 years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, including:
Urban air mobility, eVTOL, or advanced rotorcraft programs,
Business plan and technical aspects of vertiports for developing AAM infrastructure networks,
Demand modeling and forecasting, and/or,
Support of federal, state, and other clients in research, planning, and deployment of UAS/UAM technology implementation programs.
