Summary: Under general supervision of the Warehouse Supervisor, uses industrial lift trucks or other means to move, store, and deliver all types of material, finished, and semi-finished products. This position spends the majority of time transporting product from production lines to storage areas. Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as: stenciling labels and material; applying labels to material; re-packing or re-wrapping material; sorting material, picking out and setting aside obviously defective items; patching outer wrapping on material; assisting with baling scrap material; picking up trash and cleaning/sweeping warehouse and shipping areas. Repackages material in production area. Receives raw and packaging materials. Performs cycle counts and annual physical inventories as directed by the Warehouse Supervisor. Performs minor maintenance and safety checks on mobile equipment and safety devices in warehouse such as Dok-Loks. Manages time wisely and is self-motivated; handle problems on own when necessary. Instructs and trains new or transferred employees. Delivers or assists in delivering bagged binder, batch, or other ingredients to the points of use, up to and including storeroom parts, baled products, cartons, or pallets. Empties scrap containers using lift truck and automatic dumpers and compactors. Transports baled scrap to open tops and loads to maximum capacity. Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as receiving materials, sorting defective materials, transporting scrap and edge trim to balers, unitizing loads by stretch wrapping or banding, palletizing or un-palletizing materials, patching or repackaging materials. Fills propane bottles from outside storage tanks using fork trucks or bobcat depending on weather conditions. Fills equipment with diesel fuel. Fills cullet barrels for hot end. Changes AS1 barrels. Weighs plastic bales. In case of smoldering material or a warehouse fire, the warehouse will assist with corrective steps such as moving or wetting down suspect material. May be required to perform shipping and receiving functions in times of absence. When required by job task, monitors radio at all times. Assists with bay space capacity and locating additional space when needed. Assists all departments when needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Wears all required PPE. **Material Handler I** **A Snapshot of Your Day** We will start the morning off by doing stretches as a team and talk about any safety issues, personnel issues, and what our day will consist of. An MH1 (picker) works with the Team Lead and/or Warehouse MC to get a production order to be picked. The picker will use a scanner and forklift to get this done. The delivery # will be entered into a scanner, and that will tell the picker, where to pick from and how many to pick. This process will be repeated until the delivery is fulfilled. The use of a forklift **(reach truck) will be required. There will be parts of various sizes and weights that will make up a kit. The kits need to be orderly and packed in a safe manner and according to the expectation, then placed in the buffer until productions calls for it. Summary of Position The Material Handler is responsible for supporting the processing and shipment of goods and services by the proper picking, storage, stocking and restocking of materials and supplies utilized. The Material Handler is expected to perform their responsibilities in an error free manner while completing required paperwork and computer data entries associated with service center production processes. Responsibilities and Duties As a minimum, the following is a basic description of typical duties and responsibilities expected of the Material Handler position. These duties are not exhaustive and are subject to change as the needs of the organization require. Work efficiently while picking and restocking materials. Ensure stock tags and material identifications are correct. Performs daily cycle counts. Prepare and pack items for shipments according to customer specifications and delivery dates. Load and unload material from delivery trucks. Measure materials upon arrival to the warehouse in raw, uncut form and check the gauge of materials using a micrometer. Enter gathered data into computer system and generate tags to be placed on the appropriate material. Pull and stage materials according to the bill-of-lading. Perform dock audits to ensure the correct material is shipped to the customer. Obtain proof of identity from carriers and the appropriate signatures on the bill-of-lading. Drive fork truck through the plant to move material and skids to designated areas, safely. Operate the over-head crane to move material from machine to packaging, safely.
