Under the direction of a Department Manager, Shift Supervisor or Key Area Operator the Packaging Machine Operator is responsible for the daily operation of packaging equipment in an efficient and effective manner to achieve company standards. This will encompass the operation of vertical form fill and horizontal form fill packaging equipment. The position will operate both pneumatic and hydraulic system components for production and packaging areas. Duties and Responsibilities: Operate packaging equipment associated with manufacturing process. Demonstrate technical competency with vertical form fill and horizontal form fill packaging equipment. Troubleshoot and adjust statistical weigher to drive low giveaway and low film waste, while maximizing labor efficiency of the line. Must be computer literate to include MS Office Suite, OIT/HMI usage and process control functionality. Machine Efficiency-Anticipating film and coding ribbon changes to maximize machine up time. Line Logs-Fills out paperwork accurately and legibly. Use bar coding equipment as required. Personnel-Help in the training of new employees. Trouble Shooting-Monitor the equipment and hunt down and correct problems. Immediately contact supervision or maintenance if persistent problem occurs. Performs other duties related to packaging as assigned. Use tools for minor adjustment as required. Knows the targets/goals for his/her work center and adjusts equipment to achieve targets. Packaging Supplies-Check for defects and assure that the proper film, boxes, dividers etc. are used. Input Material-Monitor products for defects and assure product size, bleached/unbleached and dryness are within standards. Finished Product Quality-Constantly monitor finished bags of product for appearance, Day Code and other printing, back and end sealing. Weight Control-Monitor package weights and adjust to achieve product giveaway targets. Performs assigned jobs with minimum direction and supervision. Set up and adjust packaging machines to production specifications. Perform all duties with the required safety equipment and comply with all safety regulations and company policies. Must obtain PIT/Forklift license within 90 days of training start date. Adhere to safety Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) Other Duties assigned relevant to successfully completing the job.
