The pipe welding test is given in a restricted position (6 G) on a 5'' schedule 80 carbon steel pipe. GTAW (TIG) process used for root pass, 11018 electrode used for weld fill portion and cap.
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of Pipe Welding experience. Must have experience in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), also known as Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) also known as "stick welding” .

POSITION SUMMARY:

Requires x-ray pipe welding experience with the ability to weld pipe in all positions and mirror welding. Requires knowledge of welding symbols, ship terminology, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and American Bureau of Shipbuilding (ABS) standards. Must pass SMAW 6G Pipe Test to become ABS Certified.

Description: Pipe Welders are responsible for preforming pipe welding procedures on Stainless Steel and Copper-Nickel pipe using the TIG welding process.
Requirements:
Minimum 4 years of experience as Pipe Welder
Must have GTAW (TIG) and SMAW (STICK) experience
Must be able to pass X-Ray welding test on stainless steel and copper nickel in the 6G position (restricted)
Pipe Welding test is given in a restricted position (6G) on a 5” schedule 80 carbon steel pipe.
GTAW (TIG) process is used to weld the root pass and an 11018 electrode is used to weld the fill portion and cap. This is for X-ray quality.
Must pass drug test (HFT) and E-Verify
Must be able to work all shifts
Must be able to work in confined spaces, ascend and work at heights, under all weather conditions.

Our Welders are an integral piece of our work on a daily basis. Some of your daily functions will include:
Must be able to read blueprints.
Must be able to set up own equipment, tack, distribute heat evenly with a clean bead.
Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment Mock Weld Test.
Possess strong attention to detail in order to aid strong quality assurance program.
Excellent math skills with the ability to read a tape measure accurately.
Must be able to weld aluminum and carbon steel proficiently.
Ability to fix a defected weld.
Must be able to weld in any position (uphill, horizontal, vertical, or flat)
If you have at least 3 years' experience as a Welder, possess a High School Diploma or GED and fundamental knowledge in marine or manufacturing industry, we want to talk to you!

GENERAL FUNCTION: The pipewelder welds together piping metal components as specified by blueprints, work orders or oral instructions. The pipewelder utilizes knowledge of working characteristics of metallic and non-metallic materials including the specifications of the particular equipment to be used in the process.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities:
Weld up prefabricated piping components using various welding procedures as outlined in blueprints or specifications.
Chips off excess weld, slag and splatter using a power grinder, chipping gun or manual hammer.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of pipe welding procedures and safety requirements.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: Prior pipewelding experience is preferred but vocational training is acceptable. In some cases ABS (American Bureau of Ship Building) certification is required which confirms their competency indifferent areas of pipe welding procedures
