Find a Job You Really Want In

Halloween is just around the corner!

This festive season brings together candy, costumes, and, of course, a thrilling lineup of spooky movies. In 2026, Halloween celebrations are expected to be more vibrant and inclusive, with many workplaces hosting in-person gatherings after a shift back to traditional office environments.

While you’ll likely encounter a sea of witches, pirates, princesses, and superheroes (with witches alone accounting for about 9% of Halloween costumes), the real excitement lies in those who dare to don the unexpected. These brave souls wear unconventional costumes, ready to answer the question, “What are you supposed to be?” all night long.

We analyzed the latest data to uncover the most disproportionately popular Halloween costume in each state. Some are classic Halloween fare, while others are delightfully eccentric.

Most Interesting Findings

  • Job-related costumes have emerged as a quirky trend!
  • California and North Dakota favor the classic witch costume.
  • Plague doctor and Purge costumes are still making waves!
  • Missouri is capitalizing on the infamous fly from the Vice Presidential debate, contemplating their own buzzing tribute costume.
  • Kentucky leads as the state with the highest number of Biden costumes.
  • Carole Baskin from “Tiger King” remains a uniquely popular choice in Connecticut and Utah. A bold couple’s costume, perhaps?
  • Characters from “Hamilton” like Angelica, Eliza, and Peggy could make an appearance this Halloween.
  • Are all those Minecraft costumes in Kansas and Paw Patrol costumes in West Virginia just for kids?
  • Hawaii is likely to embrace an “Among Us” costume, inspired by the popular game.

How We Figured This Out

We turned to Google Trends to identify the most searched costume ideas. Our analysis included over 100 costumes, using keywords paired with “costumes.” If you’re searching for a “Wizard Of Oz” costume in October, chances are you’re gearing up for a Wizard of Oz-themed Halloween!

In addition to perennial favorites like pirates, witches, princesses, and superheroes, we also examined more contemporary costumes such as those inspired by “Tiger King,” “Cobra Kai,” and the trendy video game “Among Us.” This approach allowed us to pinpoint which costumes are trending disproportionately in each state.

This doesn’t imply that in Missouri the majority will dress up as a fly (although that would be amusing). It simply indicates that fly costumes are significantly more popular there compared to other states.

Our analysis focused on search activity from 9/9/20 to 10/9/20. While this timeframe misses last-minute costume searches, we know that many will simply resort to googling “easy Halloween costumes” and end up declaring themselves muggles for the night.

It’s Spooktacular!

You’re never too old to enjoy a bit of Halloween fun.

Whether it’s bringing in tasty treats to the office or sporting a whimsical costume for a work event, embrace the spirit of the season.

Halloween costumes can serve as a fantastic way to showcase your personality at work. Why not express your love for a favorite childhood movie or a beloved video game with your colleagues?

While it’s wise to avoid costumes that could hinder your work, any political themes, or overly gruesome outfits, Halloween is ultimately about enjoyment. So, make the most of it!

If the scariest thought you can conjure is facing a Monday morning at work, it may be time to seek a job that doesn’t haunt your dreams.
