Let’s explore how these rankings were determined and review the complete list of states with their respective salary data.

How We Determined Pay by State

To compile our data for 2026, we utilized the most recent annual salary figures for ramp agents from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, specifically their ‘Occupational Employment Statistics.’

To ensure a fair comparison of salaries across states, we factored in the cost of living in each state. This allows us to present a more accurate picture of what ramp agents can expect to earn in different regions.

We created an index by dividing the average wage for each state by its cost of living relative to the national average. For instance, if California has a cost of living index of 135.9 and an average pay of $39,580, our index value is calculated as follows:

$39,580 * (100 / 135.9) = $29,124

We then ranked each state based on this salary index, with the highest value indicating the best average salary for ramp agents.
