Summer Intern: Critical Threats Project - Communications and Operations

The Critical Threats Project (CTP), led by Senior Fellow Frederick W. Kagan, tracks and analyzes current and emerging threats to American national security. An intern will complete operations projects and tasks for the team, gaining skills transferrable to many professions.
The intern will curate content for CTP's website and social media platforms. Social media work will include researching and implementing new creative strategies to increase social media engagement, monitoring and reporting on the success of social media initiatives, and identifying trends to maximize impact. The intern will also provide operational support for the project, which may include creating graphics and other promotional materials, tracking metrics to determine impact, and providing additional support to the team as required. The intern will develop the team's knowledge management by creating and refining procedures documents. They may work on additional special projects.
The intern will gain exposure to a range of foreign policy issues while developing communication, public speaking, writing, and advanced computer skills. Interested candidates should demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, logic skills, and attention to detail. Successful candidates will have an eye for continuous improvement and enjoy coordinating many moving parts.

briefs filed in the U.S. Supreme Court and defending individual liberty? The Cato Institute invites applicants with a law degree to apply for our entry-level (typically 0-2 years of legal experience) Legal Associate Program at the Robert A. Levy Center for Constitutional Studies. Legal associates are given the independence and trust to take the initiative at every stage of the brief-writing process. This includes developing arguments, communicating with party counsel, researching, and drafting.
Legal associates receive intensive, one-on-one training and feedback to develop their legal writing skills. Cato
amicus
briefs are routinely filed in the US Supreme Court, federal appellate courts, and state supreme courts. The job is ideal training for a career in pro-liberty litigation.
In addition, legal associates assist in other projects such as editing the
Cato Supreme Court Review
and researching and writing for other Cato strategic initiatives. Associates are fully immersed in the intellectual life of the Cato Institute and have opportunities to meet and assist scholars in a wide range of issue areas.
Applicants are encouraged to take the bar exam before beginning employment, though this is not a requirement. Employment will begin in Summer 2026 - dates flexible and partly depend on when current associates depart - and last for one year. Responsibilities:

Qualifications:

CSIS seeks an intern to support the Americas Program. This role is ideal for a dynamic, self-starter with excellent organizational, communications, and problem-solving skills who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The intern will provide day-to-day support for program operations, including research, event support, outreach, and communications. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), strong bilingual (English/Spanish) skills, and experience in research and writing.
The CSIS Americas Program seeks highly motivated candidates for a full-time (35 hours per week), paid internship in a dynamic and fast-paced environment for Spring 2026, starting on/about February 2, 2026, and ending on/about May 31, 2026
The hired candidates will be paid hourly, commensurate with experience ($18.00/hour for current undergraduate hires, $19.00/hour for hires with a bachelor's degree, and $20.00/hour for hires with a master's degree).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
* Assisting with ongoing Americas Program research and projects as specified by the staff.
* Compiling research and data into literature reviews, summaries, backgrounders, and short publications to support the program's research portfolio.
* Assisting in the preparation and execution of Americas Program events.
* Copyediting Americas Program publications and drafting correspondence.
* Monitoring events in the Western Hemisphere.
* Disseminating news to our web following.
* Supporting communication activities.
* Other administrative tasks as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
* Strong academic record with a demonstrated interest in Western Hemisphere affairs.
* B.A. in global development, international affairs, political science, Latin American studies, or similar. A graduate degree is a plus.
* Excellent analytical and writing abilities.
* Ability to work independently.
* Strong critical thinking skills.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Detail-oriented, well-organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
* Experience working in an office environment.
* Fluency in Spanish required; proficiency in Portuguese is a plus.
* Must be able to work in the United States

Qualifications:
Interest or relevant experience in journalism, public relations, and/or marketing experience strongly preferred, plus interest or relevant experience in education and workforce development;
Strong narrative writing skills and able to synthesize longer texts into social media/newsletter-length posts and media pitches;
Experience or interest in managing and monitoring social media accounts for an organization;
Ability to take initiative and to collaborate and communicate effectively in a hybrid team;
Excellent time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines;
Detail-oriented and organized, with ability to creatively problem-solve and anticipate needs;
Familiarity with collaborative platforms for scheduling, document sharing, and task management;
