The Senior Electrician supports both foundry and machining operations by performing advanced maintenance and repair of electrical, PLC, robotic, CNC, and automation systems. This role emphasizes safe practices, expert troubleshooting, and independent execution of complex technical tasks. The Senior Electrician is expected to apply strong technical knowledge, mentor junior staff, and contribute to efficient and reliable plant operations. Key Responsibilities · Work safely with 24VDC, 120VAC, 480VAC, and 13.8kVA systems. · Use multimeters and other diagnostic equipment. · Rack the breakers for the plant's main substation as required. · Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical components of foundry and machining equipment, including furnaces, conveyors, sand systems, mold-making machines, casting equipment, lathes, drills, mills, CNCs, and robotics. Maintenance & Safety · Conduct advanced inspections, identify root causes of issues, and implement corrective actions. · Perform preventive maintenance tasks and ensure documentation in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). · Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, NEC, and company safety standards, including proper PPE usage. · Support emergency electrical and automation system repairs to minimize production disruptions. · Provide guidance and mentoring to Junior Electricians and maintenance staff. The Electrician is primarily assigned to the Utilities Division, but is expected to assist in others divisions as directed and works regularly with the Facilities Division to assist with facility and equipment maintenance and repair. The Job: The Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing all the electrical systems. This role is responsible for evaluating the Museum electrical needs, performing maintenance and installations as needed and prioritizing calls based on business goals. This is a 40-hour/week, union-represented position (IBEW, AFL-CIO, Local #134) with regular hours and occasional overtime. Responsibilities Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes. Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring. Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit (including wiring through conduit). Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps. Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment. Installs control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels. Connects power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor, and installs grounding leads. Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope. Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement. Performs preventative maintenance on electrical equipment. Repairs faulty equipment or systems. Installs lighting and lighting track. Installs and dismantles permanent and temporary exhibits. Other duties as assigned. Measurable Expectations The ability to troubleshoot and complete a 120volt, 15amp, circuit repair of a duplex outlet, and single switch replacement in a reasonable amount of time. The ability to complete required Preventative Maintenance assignments within required time as per work instruction/order. Close out work assignments as schedule daily. Accountable for all daily work time on all work assignments and/or work orders within the provided computer-based system. Ability to account for and document parts used for a repair or replacement on the required work instruction/order. Responsible for inventory and reconciling inventory of all Electrical related equipment and materials needed to completed required jobs on a yearly basis. Qualifications Five years' experience as an electrician is required. High school or GED diploma is required; Associates degree or equivalent degree from a technical school is a plus. Completion of an accredited electrician apprenticeship and/or NFPA 70e certification is a plus. Experience in the renewable energy systems is preferred. Valid driver's license is required. Able to work nights, holidays, and weekends as needed. Language: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization. Mathematical: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. RRC SIFANG AMERICA INCORPORATED (“CRRC”) is a passenger railcar manufacturer in Chicago, Illinois. The passenger railcar manufacturing process includes 2 bargained-for work disciplines: assembly and electrical. The instant job description relates specifically to electrical work during the production of passenger railcars. Summary Electrical Workers are separated into 4 classifications/categories, namely Entry Level, Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3. As specified below, said classifications are separated by, among other considerations, skill sets, experience, and proficiency. In general, Electrical Workers are responsible for wiring, assembling, connecting, and testing (specifically not including testing required during the commissioning process) electrical components on railcars under varying levels of supervision (depending on classification) while following drawings, schematics, procedures, and other written documentation, instructions, directives, and protocols. Electrical Workers will also participate in the testing/commissioning portion of the production process by providing support to Commissioning and Functional Engineers, and other high-level engineering and/or technical personnel, as directed, by specifically assisting with wiring for the continuity test, insulation test, and high voltage/potential (hipot) test. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Interpreting and using electrical schematics, drawings, process procedures, and other written documentation to prepare materials and tools, and to complete assembly of components; Sorting, routing, crimping, and terminating wires to electrical components; Using basic diagnostics tools such as multimeters to test, and trouble-shoot wire connections (not related to commissioning work), as required; Disassembling and recovering components for testing and commissioning, during the continuity, insulation, and high voltage/potential tests, as directed by Commissioning Engineers and other such specially-skilled personnel; Trimming and insulating stripped wiring utilizing heat shrink tubing; Disconnecting and restoring cable shunts and relevant tooling; Completing paperwork, such as quality confirmation forms, as required in the process; Following all safety protocols, and company policies and procedures; Complete work documentation; Maintaining a neat, clean, and organized work area; and Performing other tasks, as assigned.
