About this Role
A Journeyman Lineman Foreman (Transmission) at Irby Construction Company oversees a team of linemen in the construction, maintenance, and repair of power lines and electrical systems, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and project completion according to company standards. This leadership role involves assigning tasks, conducting safety analyses, coordinating with management, and training less experienced crew members, while also performing skilled electrical work.

What You'll Do
Has worked in the line industry as a journeyman lineman for at least 5 years
Ability to lead and guide a crew of journeyman and apprentice linemen in their daily tasks
Conduct job safety analyses (JSAs), ensure compliance with safety standards, and foster a strong safety culture within the crew
Oversee the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground power lines, substations, and other electrical equipment
Assign tasks to crew members, ensuring efficient workflow and project progress
Serve as a liaison between the crew, project managers, and other stakeholders, relaying information and resolving issues
Train and mentor less experienced linemen and apprentices, providing guidance and sharing expertise
Complete daily paperwork, including time sheets, material orders, and work reports
Apply extensive knowledge of electrical systems and the use of tools and equipment to perform skilled tasks and solve field problems

We are seeking a motivated and reliable Apprentice Technician to join our dynamic team in the HVAC, Refrigeration, and Commercial Kitchen Equipment Repair industry. As an apprentice, you will gain hands-on experience, learn essential technical skills, and work alongside skilled professionals to become proficient in servicing, installing, and maintaining HVAC systems, refrigeration units, gas, steam, and electric. This individual must show growth within six months to one year before moving on to junior technician status. The Apprentice will be evaluated every three months and rotate between technicians to ensure diverse training.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist senior technicians with the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, refrigeration, and commercial kitchen equipment
Learn to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment issues using tools, meters, and specialized instruments
Perform preventive maintenance tasks to ensure the proper functioning of equipment and systems
Assist with system inspections, identify malfunctions, and provide recommendations for repairs or upgrades
Maintain and organize equipment, tools, and spare parts inventory
Keep accurate records of services performed, including diagnostic results, repairs, and parts used
Adhere to safety guidelines and best practices when handling equipment, tools, and hazardous materials
Participate in on-the-job training and attend formal training programs to develop technical knowledge and skills
Communicate effectively with clients, answering questions and providing updates on repair or installation progress
Assist in the preparation of estimates and work orders under supervision
Support senior technicians in troubleshooting complex issues as experience is gained
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
A strong interest in learning about HVAC, refrigeration, and commercial kitchen equipment repair
Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems (training will be provided)
Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Ability to work in a physically demanding environment (lifting equipment, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces)
Strong communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team
A valid driver's license and reliable transportation (some travel may be required)
Ability to lift 50 - 70 pounds
Willingness to commit to completing the apprenticeship program and pursuing a career in the trade
Must be able to obtain any required fire watch and burn permits within 6 months of hire

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Assist in the lay-out, fabrication and installation of gas distribution systems, which includes new construction and/or maintenance on various types of commercial, residential and industrial equipment. An Apprentice shall work in compliance with all Company policies, procedures, rules, regulations, safety standards and communicate in an effective, professional and courteous manner with all Company personnel, customers, contractors, developers, police/fire officials, other utility representatives, and members of the general public.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Individuals in this classification have minimal experience in the natural gas industry and will attend and successfully complete formal/informal training to be qualified to efficiently and effectively perform the duties and responsibilities listed below:
Turn on and turn off gas services, appliances, and equipment.
Read meters and meter instruments.
Perform the duties of a line locator.
Assist and/or perform the installation, removal, change-out or upgrade of service regulators and meter sets.
Assist and/or perform the start-up of conversion burners.
May assist and perform the installation and maintenance of underground/above ground distribution/transmission mains, services, equipment and meter activity, including minor repairs and adjustments.
Assist and/or perform plastic pipe fusion, tapping, and stopping operations.
Assist and/or perform in operating hydraulic tools, backhoe and other machines used in natural gas operations.
Assist and/or perform the investigations of inside and outside natural gas leaks.
Work with a hand-held radio device with internet capability to open and close assigned service orders.
Use of a lap-top computer for mapping, work orders, training and Employee Self Service for working time, benefits and job listings.
Ability to work overtime as needed including weekends and holidays in response to gas emergencies.
Ability to work Call Out and Stand-by schedule on a rotating basis.
Will perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
-Must be able to detect normal concentrations of natural gas odorant.
-Must have vision acceptable under DOT guidelines 49 CFR 391.41(b)(10).
-Must have hearing acceptable under DOT guidelines 49 CFR 391.41(b)(11).

Nice-to-Haves:
One (1) to two (2) years natural gas or utility work experience or related work experience (such as propane, pipe fitting, etc.) a plus.
Two (2) or more years of direct work experience performing the duties and responsibilities of a gas locator.
Working Conditions
Must be physically capable of indoor/outdoor manual labor.
Successful candidate must reside within 25 miles or 45 minutes of the Orlando Division office location to ensure business continuity and emergency response time.

About this Role
A Journeyman Lineman Foreman (Transmission) at Irby Construction Company oversees a team of linemen in the construction, maintenance, and repair of power lines and electrical systems, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and project completion according to company standards. What You'll Do
