The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM), Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS), invites applications for a full-time (100%, 12 month) Open rank position in Small Animal Dentistry. The successful candidate will be eligible for an endowed professorship and will join an established primary care service team with three clinicians (two ABVP board-certified). The service currently performs routine dentistry procedures with an average case load of 300 per year and has three veterinary nurses, two of whom are VTS-certified (AVTCP - canine/feline). The successful candidate would possess advanced training in small animal dentistry and experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery is preferred. The successful candidate will perform dentistry within the small animal primary care service while also providing advanced dental care from a referral caseload. The service has the support of, and access to, all the resources of the Purdue University Veterinary Hospital, an on-site clinical pathology laboratory, and the Indiana State Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory. The PVM is highly supportive of individual faculty career growth and development, including an active formal faculty mentoring program.
Qualifications
Qualifications for the position include a DVM or equivalent degree, and board certification in the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC), and a minimum of 5 years' experience in dental practice in either an academic or private setting. Candidates must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and work collaboratively with other faculty and staff. Excellent teaching skills or the ability to demonstrate a sincere interest in developing strong teaching skills is required. The expectations for the position include: 1) clinical, didactic, and laboratory instruction of veterinary medical and veterinary nursing students in all aspects of small animal dentistry; 2) as part of our teaching mission, the faculty member will provide supervision and mentorship to a Resident; 3) clinical service commitment of approximately 60%, providing dentistry and oral and maxillofacial surgical services for primary and referral patients; 4) collaboration in clinical research projects; and 5) participation in engagement activities, including committee work, PVM sponsored programs, and delivery of continuing education programs. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. A background check is required for employment by the University.

The David and Bonnie Brunner Small Animal Hospital added 65,000 square feet to the existing small animal hospital facilities in Lynn Hall of Veterinary Medicine. The normal full-time workload is 4-4 teaching. Summer teaching is an additional possibility. The positions begin in August 2026.
Non-tenure Track Clinical Position
These are non-tenure-track, renewable three-year positions with opportunities for advancement within Purdue's clinical faculty system. The Cornerstone Director reviews the performance of successful candidates each year. Faculty in these positions may hold affiliate appointments with departments in the College of Liberal Arts. As members of the clinical faculty of Purdue University, appointments are subject to all Purdue University policies, as they may be amended from time to time. The Higher Education program has delivered a redesigned, research-intensive, and successful Ph.D. program since 2019. The program area offers a hybrid Ph.D. in Educational Studies with a concentration in Higher Education and an online Master's degree in Educational Studies with a concentration in Higher Education Systems, Policy, and Leadership. This position will serve both the Ph.D. and Master's level degree programs.
The Higher Education faculty are dedicated to preparing future administrators and faculty members in the field of education from Pre-K to the doctorate, or PK-22. With this position, we seek a colleague to extend our commitment to and expertise in the sociology of education, with a particular focus in PK-22 education environments. Specifically, the ideal colleague will utilize both critical and creative approaches to engage students in discourse on the impact of higher education organizational systems, structures, and policies on the PK-22 education landscape at the local, state, federal, and global levels. Further, we seek candidates who are experienced in study abroad leadership as well as instruction in transformative leadership in PK-22 education environments.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate is expected to:
Teach courses (face to face, hybrid, & online) in both the Higher Education PhD and the Higher Education Systems, Policy, and Leadership Master's program. Clinical faculty teach 3 classes in the Fall and 3 classes in the Spring;
Mentor & engage in scholarship with Ph.D. students, serving as research mentor for student peer-reviewed research papers. Demonstration of the ability to author and mentor peer-reviewed research is highly desired;
Contribute to and engage in service to the program, department, college, and profession; and,
Assistin the coordination of recruitment & support services for the Master's program.
Required Qualifications
Hold a Ph.D. or Ed.D. with a concentration in higher education or related field by the position start date.
A strong record or demonstrated potential of research productivity in peer-reviewed publications in high quality journals.
Previous teaching experience or the ability to teach courses in both the Ph.D. and Master's programs in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
Evidence of teaching excellence.
Strong methodological experience in one or more areas of inquiry (e.g., single-case experimental research, randomized control trials, systematic literature review).
