Starts devices to test their performance. Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make, repair, and rebuild parts. Initiates purchase order for parts and machines. Repairs electrical equipment. Preventative maintenance on a scheduled basis for all fleet vehicles. Completion of major fabrication work as assigned, to include; body work, painting, installation of wheelchair lifts, etc. Road service calls as necessary to evaluate and repair failed vehicles and equipment. Timely communication to Supervisors and Dispatchers of vehicles off road for service and repair. (To include target time for returning to road service.) Performs New York State D.O.T. inspections of road vehicles. Road tests equipment and vehicles. Diagnoses chronic repair problems and devises permanent repair resolution plan. Operates snow removal equipment. Performs minor building maintenance and equipment repair as needed.
