The town officially opened in July, 2007 and the permanent campus welcomed students at the start of the 2007-08 academic year.

Shortly after Peggy Stinnet moved to the town of Ave Maria in 2007, the housing market crashed — and with it, plans to create a lively commercial core.

It was renamed the Rhodora J. Donahue Academy in February of 2009.

2012

Monaghan said in 2012 that Ave Maria's construction cost estimates doubled over three years, requiring the university to cut back on planned buildings.

2013

Del Webb Naples is restricted to residents 55 years old or older, and has been attracting buyers from other age-restricted communities, primarily in the Midwest, Northeast and East Coast of Florida, ever since its 12,000-square-foot Oasis clubhouse was completed in January 2013.

The university ran a satellite campus in Nicaragua called the Ave Maria University-Latin American Campus for 13 years, and then sold it to Keiser University in July 2013.

Sales in Ave Maria increased 31 percent from 173 in 2013, which Kahn characterized as “remarkable for its overall velocity.”

2014

In 2014, 234 homes were built, and 138 households moved in, the Palm Beach Gardens, Florida research firm said.

With 227 new home sales in 2014, Ave Maria ranked 49th on the list of more than 130 communities, she said

Last month, the website 55places.com, which accepts no developer advertising, put Del Webb Naples on its 2015 list of the 55 Best 55+ Active Adult Communities in America.

2017

On January 19, 2017 the Diocese of Venice purchased the oratory from Ave Maria University and established its status from a quasi-parish to a parish.
