Culver City, CA job
Welcome to Warner Bros. Discovery… the stuff dreams are made of.
Who We Are…
When we say, “the stuff dreams are made of,” we're not just referring to the world of wizards, dragons and superheroes, or even to the wonders of Planet Earth. Behind WBD's vast portfolio of iconic content and beloved brands, are the
storytellers
bringing our characters to life, the

bringing them to your living rooms and the
dreamers
creating what's next…
From brilliant creatives, to technology trailblazers, across the globe, WBD offers career defining opportunities, thoughtfully curated benefits, and the tools to explore and grow into your best selves. Here you are supported, here you are celebrated, here you can thrive.
Your New Role…
The U.S. Content Strategy & Analysis team leads end-to-end content analysis for the WBD Streaming org (HBO Max and Discovery+). The team evaluates greenlights for new originals and acquisition deals, runs renewal/re-up analyses, and provides insights and recommendations to leadership as to how each piece of content might fit with our broader strategy. Once the content lands on HBO Max, the team also leads all live & retrospective analysis on how the content is performing, leveraging data points including overall platform/industry trends, scheduling and release patterns, completion rates, and viewer segmentation/demographics. The team shapes and articulates those learnings to help improve decision-making and performance wherever possible.
Given the team's broad scope, the right candidate for the Associate role will be someone who loves answering hard questions, obsesses over details, and jumps at the opportunity to take on new challenges. A love of media is also a must: content awareness & expertise are both critical to everything we do. The role will require a high level of collaboration with partners across WBD to deliver quality work in one of the highest priority businesses at the company.
Your Role Accountabilities…
Conduct title-level greenlighting & renewal analyses within the Streaming division, developing narratives around valuation and performance insights to share with key stakeholders
Help stress test and improve analytical frameworks used for assessing key strategic questions across our content offering
Become well-versed in key large and heavily layered 1P & 3P Streaming data sources - everything from big picture indicators to small and technical nuances - to explore every important “what if” a project calls for
Collaborate with other teams - especially Product Analytics, Data Science, Content Finance, Research, and Business Intelligence - to improve deliverables for key internal stakeholders across Programming, Acquisitions, Strategy, and Corporate
Support in the compilation and communication of content performance analyses through write-ups and presentations, often in response to ad hoc requests
Understand and work through the cross-platform dynamics between Streaming, Linear, and other platforms as it impacts potential outcomes for HBO Max and Discovery+
Maintain an in-depth knowledge of media industry trends and competitive activity
Provide support for senior management in key presentations around content strategy, new initiatives, and major decisions
Qualifications & Experience…
A Bachelor's Degree
1-4 years relevant work experience, working in areas like Analytics, Consulting, Investment Banking, or Research, informing strategic & corporate initiatives. Experience in media/communications is particularly useful but not required
Excellent analytic skills and modeling capabilities, with deep attention to detail
Extensive experience with Microsoft Excel & PowerPoint
On the Excel front, prior modeling experience in building dynamic workbooks for live data exploration and testing assumptions
On the PowerPoint front, a comfort level in building executive-level materials, with a keen eye for presentation design, and the ability to distill complex concepts and analyses into clear, easy-to-understand outputs
Experience wrangling large data sets to develop these analytical narratives, as well as in validating outputs through thorough quality checks and troubleshooting outliers
An ability to identify the “so-what”, develop early hypotheses, and propose the next line of inquiry
A passion for entertainment, being an avid media viewer - and a drive to follow industry trends & happenings to always have the most up-to-date information on-hand for any analysis
A collaborative and diplomatic attitude, but also a willingness to take and defend data-and-analysis-backed positions as part of the dialogue around content selection
Not required, but a big plus is experience writing SQL queries or Python/R scripts, or using visualization/manipulation tools like Looker and Tableau; we have a variety of tools at our disposal to access & manipulate data and toggle between them often
A compulsion to learn: proactively seeking context, asking clarifying questions, and integrating feedback into future work; this plays a big role in your ability to “connect the dots” later as you build up your skill set
Strong written and verbal communication skills
A team player through & through - collaboration is constant and critical to our success
