Duties
During the course of their careers, Secret Service Police carry out assignments in protection. Duties include:
Providing protection for The White House Complex, The Vice President's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, and foreign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C. area.
Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential, and foreign heads of state/government missions.
Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as described under Title 18, United States Code, Section 3056A.
Requirements
U.S. citizenship is required.
Possess a current valid U.S. driver's license.
Must be at least 21 years old at the time of application and under 40 at referral. Exceptions may apply for those with current or prior service in federal law enforcement positions covered by special retirement provisions. The Secret Service has determined that age is essential to the performance of this position.
Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory.
Possess uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular. Possess corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.
Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 25 decibels (A.S.A. or equivalent I.S.O.) in either ear in the 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz ranges. Applicants must be able to hear the whispered voice at 15 feet with each ear without the use of a hearing aid.
Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
Complete 12 weeks of intensive training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA or Artesia, NM and 17 weeks of specialized training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.

Under general supervision, Police Officers will look out for the welfare of the entire University, working closely with all University departments, utilizing a strong understanding of all laws including search and seizure, and probable cause; will patrol, respond to and handle incidents involving violations of law or campus regulations; will conduct thorough criminal investigations; testify in court; provide general information and assistance to the public; and apply progressive police principles and best practices. This position will communicate and interact effectively with students, staff, faculty and community members with varied backgrounds and lived experiences. Required Education and Experience:
Current enrollment in, or successful completion of, a California Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Basic Police Academy is required at the time of application. Possession of a valid Certificate of Completion of the Basic Academy is required at time of appointment.
Must be a high school graduate, pass the General Education Development (GED) Test indicating high school graduation level, or have attained a two-year or four-year degree from a college or university.
MINIMUM STANDARDS for POLICE OFFICER CANDIDATES (California Government Code Section 1031):
Must have no felony convictions.

Must successfully complete fingerprint and records check including local, state and federal criminal records.

You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
* Providing direction and oversight for all BorderPatrol related functions within an assigned area.
* Assisting, advising and instructing subordinates in their work and resolving difficult problems requiring coordination with other operating units.
* Developing, managing or directing operational policy or programs related to BorderPatrol operations.
This position has an Individual Occupational Requirement: Specialized Experience in law enforcement or other responsible work that demonstrated the ability to: Make arrests and exercise sound judgment in the use of firearms; deal effectively with individuals or groups of persons in a courteous, tactful manner in connection with law enforcement matters; analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions or take prompt and appropriate law enforcement action in light of applicable laws, court decisions, and sound law enforcement procedures; and develop and maintain contact with a network of informants.

Motor Vehicle Operation: You must possess the ability to operate a Government Owned Vehicle. A valid, non-restricted driver's license is required.
Shift Work/Overtime: This position requires regular and recurring shift work. You must be willing and available to work rotating shifts. You may also be rotated between assignments and duty locations. You could be required to work overtime on a daily basis and will be compensated up to an additional 25% of your base pay in accordance with the BorderPatrolAgent Pay Reform Act of 2014.
Travel: Overnight travel may be required on a regular and recurring basis.
Uniform/Grooming Standards: This position requires wearing an officially approved uniform and complying with established grooming standards found here, as established by the BorderPatrol's Uniform and Grooming Standards Policy #IOP-5320-02A-UGSBPA. Please note that in accordance with these standards, tattoos and/or brandings on the head and face are not permitted. Supervisory Probationary Period: You may be required to serve an 18-month probationary period upon appointment to this position. You may also be required to complete an appropriate supervisory training course within 90 days of assignment to this position.
Leadership Training: All newly appointed, second level supervisors and managers are required to complete mandatory training. The training will be scheduled by the Office of Training and Development within the first 90 days of appointment. The duration of the training will include 4 weeks of in residence training in Harpers Ferry, WV. Note: This training may be waived if previously completed.

Arizona POST Certified Officer Applicants
In order to apply as an AZPOST certified lateral Police Officer, candidates must have successfully completed an AZPOST approved Police Officer Academy and currently possess an active AZPOST Peace Officer Certification.
Applicants currently certified by AZPOST will not be required to attend the academy.
Out-of-State Lateral Officer Applicants
Out-of-state lateral Police Officers must have successfully completed a sworn Police Officer Academy and currently possess an active Peace Officer Certification.
Out-of-State Lateral Officers may be able to gain AZPOST Certification through the waiver process, and if successfully completed, will not be required to attend the academy.
