Founded in 1987 by the late David Packard, the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) is a nonprofit oceanographic research center advancing marine science and engineering to understand our changing ocean. Located in Moss Landing, California, the heart of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, MBARI offers ready access to the open ocean and deep sea. Ongoing research programs range across autonomous and remotely operated underwater vehicle systems, control technologies, ocean physics, chemistry, geology, biology, ocean instrumentation, and information management. MBARI is seeking an experienced, safety-focused Port Captain to manage and oversee vessel operations and regulatory oversight. When at sea, command may include both Rachel Carson and David Packard, a newly delivered dynamic positioning diesel-electric research vessel, both operating on the U.S. West Coast. The successful candidate will lead complex, multidisciplinary science missions emphasizing ROV operations, multibeam hydrographic surveys, and precision station-keeping. This position requires demonstrated technical competence with integrated bridge systems and dynamic positioning systems, proven operational leadership, regulatory/compliance expertise, and the ability to motivate and develop a small technical ship's team. Under the general direction of the Director of Marine Operations, the incumbent initiates and completes actions necessary to carry out assigned tasks. Rachel Carson primarily conducts single day missions, returning to Moss Landing the same day. David Packard, which conducts extended expeditions, maintains the following shipboard living conditions: Standard two-person cabins (single person for Captain and Chief Engineer) meeting MLC standards. Personnel have access to satellite internet with bandwidth restrictions. The ship also offers a small gym and good coffee. The Port Captain position is a mixed position with the majority for shore side support, complemented by sea time. Key Job Functions * Oversees all Valet and Bell Duties on your assigned shift * Welcomes all vehicles in Valet with a flawless greeting immediately for all guests, park all vehicles in a safe manner * Delivers guest luggage and retrieve guest luggage in a fast and timely manner * Prepare paperwork for both Bell and Valet for the next scheduled shifts * Fold enough Valet tickets (Hotel and Casino) for the next shift - Restock if needed * Stock Bell Tickets as needed for the next shift * Organize all Bell Carts in the storage room and wipe down when needed (Based on weather conditions) * Audit all parked vehicles and confirm numbers match with CVPS and number of keys match * Sweep driveway as needed to keep tidy * Keep area and all doors secured at all times * Observe area at all times for any Safety issue and report as soon as possible * Other duties will be assigned to prepare for a special event as needed Education and/or Experience High School Diploma or equivalent preferred * Able to drive all types of vehicles * Literate and fluent in English * Excellent guest service skills * Adheres to all company policies and procedures Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands * Must be able to stand, walk and Jog for extended periods of time * Able to lift up to 75lbs * Computer experience * Must have the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist * Must be able to work in all types of weather

Job DescriptionSalary: $18.00-$20.00 Types of Activities Utilizing Captains Harbor Excursions, Educational Cruises, Bay Fishing Trips via pontoon boat, and Ocean Fishing trips via sport fisher Boats Utilizing Master License: 33 ft. Pontoon Boat, 23 ft Striper Sea Swirl Sport Fisher Overview of the Position Boat Captains with a Master License will be driving vessels around the harbor for a variety of classes throughout the year with children, parents, and Staff aboard. Pontoon boat can hold 20 people max per COI and sport fisher can hold 6 passengers. Event outings vary from 1-4 hours in length. Other trips are quicker class deliveries/drop offs with children going to and from the Newport Sea Base and local venues such as the Back Bay Science Center, Balboa Fun Zone, Marina Park, the Wedge, and local beaches. You must be at least 21 years old, be certified in CPR and First Aid, and attain your CA Boater's Card upon being hired. Must also be able to pass random drug screens throughout tenure via the Maritime Consortium. Needs to be enthusiastic, patient, creative, and have a comfort and inclination working with children. All boat captains must be able to swim. Must be comfortable communicating with young children, teens, and parents. Responsibilities/Duties Prepare and pre-trip all boats pre and post event Refill gas tanks when low; learn how to utilize local dock gas stations via NSB account Assist in supervising children aboard ensuring safety at all times Outlines rules and procedures before embarking on outings and enforcing rules throughout the duration of each event Track attendance on each boat's log especially the pontoon boat Ensure boat is cleaned, reorganized, and kept tidy after each outing Report program/equipment concerns to supervisor immediately. Teach youth water, boating and paddle craft safety. Be a positive role model and mentor to youth participants. Enforce appropriate student-discipline procedures. Communicate thoroughly and effectively with other program staff and Lead Instructors. The Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) is recruiting for a Fire Captain located at the Bowers Station Washoe Valley. The Fire Captain works with staff to ensure agency and national training qualifications, and currency are met. This position evaluates situations and requests necessary resources; inspects, tests, and ensures proper operation of all assigned equipment; and maintains records and prepares reports. The Fire Captain works closely with state, federal, and local cooperators, as well as landowners to achieve the mission. The incumbent must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. A copy of your Red Card, or equivalent, MUST be attached to application at time of submittal.
