Job Overview
As a Selling and Support Captain, you are an advocate for the customer and a role model for your colleagues. Under the supervision of a People Leader, you will play a key role in communicating expectations and priorities to our colleagues. What You Will Do
Based upon your Captain assignment you could be fulfilling customer orders, merchandising, processing new products, or supervising the selling floor in delivering exceptional customer service.
Lead colleagues in the execution and completion of assigned tasks.

Are you an accomplished maritime professional with a Yachtmaster Offshore license (or equivalent) who is passionate about education and youth development?
SailFuture is seeking an Expedition Captain to lead rite of passage sailing expeditions with high school age students.
The Captain will participate in all aspects of ship programming in addition to their duty to the vessel. This includes leading shore-side activities, supervising students, teaching coursework, and managing student apprentices.
About the Vessel
The vessel is a 100' Giorgetti & Magrini ketch-rigged sailing yacht with accommodations for 12 students and 6 staff.
Staff quarters are separate from students and are in shared cabins with a shared bathroom.
About the Schedule
This is a year round position with up to 42 calendar days of PTO from the vessel.
Students will be onboard 30-35 weeks per year. During expeditions, expect a 7-day work week with days off in port when available. The vessel may be chartered during off weeks.
The Captain is responsible for manning the vessel (typically at anchor) in between student expeditions. While students are not onboard, there is a standard 5-day work week.
The vessel does not operate during the Christmas holidays.
The Captain reports to the Director of Maritime Operations and/or CEO. The Captain is responsible for overall vessel operations and program management.
Responsibilities:
Overall management and upkeep of the vessel
Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance on all systems
Diagnose and repair all systems as needed
Management and supervision of permanent and rotating program staff
Ensure that program Standard Operating Procedures are followed at all times

Hold all youth and rotating program staff to the highest levels of seamanship

* Be familiar with the specific types of vessel operating procedures and procedures for making horsepower/tow decisions.

* Know and have the ability to safely direct the safe and careful handling of fuel and other pollutants by the crew. Responsible for pursuing aggressive pollution prevention.
* Be proficient in vessel inspection procedures/ conducting in-house inspections and record keeping on a frequent basis.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Performs crisis intervention functions to include but not limited to subduing violent or uncooperative inmates, defending persons against attack, or preventing escapes, using approved deadly or non-deadly force, restraints or other approved methods. This will include the visual inspection of body cavities and possible exposure to body fluids.
Observes inmate behavior to identify inmates exhibiting mental or emotional disorders, using counseling techniques or referral action as outlined in written policies or guidelines.

Essential Functions:
Customer Service
* Approaches all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly and service-oriented manner.

Compliance

Other:

* Cross trains to support the Beverage and Restaurant departments.
* Functions as Banquet/Catering Set Up Crew Supervisor when needed.
* Works with all departmental managers to ensure the proper communication of all Food and Beverage related issue as they arise.
* Performs other duties as requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Ability to lead, motivate and relate to staff, peers, and clients.
* Ability to project a professional demeanor and appearance and communicate effectively with clients and staff.
* Maintain composure in stressful situations.
* Must possess working knowledge of the Straz Center's operational information.
Education and Work Experience:
* At least three years' experience in a comparable facility or related field preferred.
* Supervisory experience preferred.
* High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities:
Adhering to all property standards, polices and procedures
Performing all guest contact in a cordial, efficient and professional manner at all times maintaining a commitment to guest satisfaction.

Attend BEO meetings, as necessary, and discuss a plan of action with the Banquet Manager for all events.

Inspects the Banquet room for assigned functions, making sure that all details reflect the BEO.
Check temperature, lighting and general cleanliness of event room.
Meets with Servers, Bartender and event staff to provide instructions and post daily side work.
Inspects table place-setting, table linen, chinaware and silverware for correct placement and conditions to ensure that all is clean, undamaged and attractive.
Responsible for proper setting of of buffet tables and other food service tables.
Supervises the handling, storage and security of all Banquet service equipment.
Sees that all scheduled events take place on time and according to BEO.
Makes contact with the host in charge of event to introduce him/herself and coordinate all final details of the event.
Informs Banquet Manager of any repairs needed related to service equipment.
Participates in Banquet staff training sessions with Manager.
Promptly and accurately performs any special assignments made by Banquet Manager.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED a plus but not required
Previous Banquet Captain experience required
Must be able to read and communicate in English to ensure guest satisfaction
Must have AM & PM work availability
Must be able to work weekends and holidays
Previous guest service experience required.
Ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team
Must be able to stand and exert fast-paced mobility for entire shift.
Able to work quickly without compromising quality.
