- LANGDON, ND CIVIL ENGINEER-IN-TRAINING Fischer Land Surveying & Engineering of Langdon, ND is seeking an Engineer in Training (EIT) to join our company. Candidate must have a bachelor's degree in civil or construction engineering. We primarily serve NE ND and NW MN but have also done work across the state of ND. We have continued to grow our client base and projects over the past 28 years, striving to provide the most accurate and quality services for our clients. We are a small company where every employee plays an important role. We design open channel drains and have helped create 30 assessment drains in northeastern ND. The advantage of working for a small firm is you get to take a project from conception to construction. In addition, we do other engineering projects such as site design and layout for convenience stores, agricultural facilities and commercial buildings. Full-time M-F. Wage depending on experience. $70,000-$85,000 Primary Duties & Responsibilities Manage small to mid-size projects, client and contractor agreements and budgets. Effectively write and prepare technical engineering reports, plans and specifications for construction projects. Assist in field operations as needed; this may include construction inspection, survey and other forms of field engineering. Oversee construction activities and compliance with construction documents. Consult with clients and contractors to plan and develop strategies for their civil engineering design and support needs. Provide general oversight with contractors and sub-contractors. Gather field survey data to determine precise location and measurements of points, elevations, contours, etc. through the use of conventional surveying and GPS methods. Prepares accurate field notes, drawings and records change in conditions while in field. Ensure schedules and productivity objectives are achieved. Candidate may be required to help with land surveying as needed. Training will be provided. Ensure work vehicle is supplied with stakes, flagging, lath, etc. Responsible for keeping track of oil changes or routine maintenance due on survey vehicle or UTV in advance so they can be scheduled for maintenance in a timely manner. What You Will Do: * Assist in leading a team performing bridge design and other structural design for a wide variety of clients including cities, counties, state, and private entities * Use innovative approaches to provide our clients with efficient designs focused on quality * Utilize your engineering design skills to perform and check structural calculations for both new and existing structures to direct engineering technicians in the development of engineering drawings * Develop project specifications and special provisions, to conduct structural inspections * Write reports regarding the inspection and evaluation of existing facilities * While bridge projects are expected to make up the majority of your work, you will also be required to provide structural design and analysis for retaining walls, buildings and other vertical structures, and hydraulic structures such as clarifiers, tanks, dam, and weirs * Your experience level will determine the amount of independent judgment granted, the complexity of tasks performed, and direct supervision received What You Will Bring: * Bachelor Science degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of five years' work experience of bridge and related structural design * Registration as a Professional Engineer in the States of Florida or North Carolina or ability to become licensed in Minnesota by comity is preferred. If not already licensed, the Candidate will be required to become licensed in North Carolina & Florida within one calendar year of employment * Certification as a Bridge Safety Inspection Team Leader preferred but not required * Familiar with LRFD design procedures, bridge design software, calculation software such as Microsoft Excel or MathCAD, possess basic drawing skills in either Microstation or AutoCAD, and have proven engineering design experience.
