Job Summary The Structural Steel Fabrication & Welding Oversight Engineer is responsible for overseeing structural steel fabrication activities to ensure full compliance with applicable codes, specifications, and project requirements. This role places particular emphasis on fabrication performed in accordance with AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code and AWS D1.6 Structural Welding Code for Stainless Steel. The position works closely with fabricators, inspectors, engineers, and project teams to ensure quality, safety, and schedule adherence. Key Responsibilities Oversee and monitor structural steel fabrication activities at fabrication shops and/or project sites. Ensure welding and fabrication comply with AWS D1.5 and AWS D1.6, as well as project specifications, drawings, and contract requirements. Review and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ). Coordinate with fabricators, subcontractors, and third-party inspectors to resolve welding and fabrication issues. Perform or oversee inspection of materials, fit-up, welding, and final fabrication. Identify non-conformances, issue corrective actions, and verify resolution. Support shop and field quality audits related to welding and fabrication practices. Maintain accurate documentation, including inspection reports, material traceability records, and code compliance records. Provide technical guidance on welding processes, materials, joint details, and inspection requirements. Participate in project meetings and provide fabrication and welding status updates. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related field or equivalent industry experience. Demonstrated experience overseeing structural steel fabrication projects. Strong working knowledge of AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code and AWS D1.6 Structural Welding Code for Stainless Steel. Experience coordinating with fabrication shops and welding inspectors. Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, welding symbols, and specifications. Familiarity with QA/QC processes and documentation for structural steel fabrication. Preferred Qualifications AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Senior CWI.
