TECHNICAL TASKS
Performs all high complexity procedures in all areas of the clinical laboratory that require the exercise of independent judgement and con assist in the blood bank.
Completes all work according to policy and procedure.

Assures that all specimens are properly identified and of acceptable condition for accurate results.
Able to handle routine and stat specimens efficiently to meet the required turnaround times for each.
Able to perform all procedures in the laboratory regardless of difficulty.
Assist the Clinical Support Assistants with phlebotomy, specimen accessioning, phone requests and customer inquiries.
Maintains appropriate levels of inventory and capable of taking the annual inventory.
Demonstrates a complete understanding of all policies and procedures.
Capable of assessing and correlating new procedures that are to be implemented in the laboratory. Prepares procedure/policy drafts for the new procedure.
Capable of assisting with certification inspections (CAP, JCAH, etc.).
Capable of being trained as an LCDM (laboratory information system analyst).
Capable of taking call for the laboratory/blood bank if necessary. Can be called on to act in the absence of the Lab Director or Supervisor.
CRITICAL THINKING
Anticipates, organizes and prioritizes the department/laboratory work, in accordance with policy and procedure, in order to satisfy customer expectations (TAT, accuracy, critical, fax requests, etc.).
Capable of reviewing QC data and initiate corrective action with the QC Officer as necessary.
Capable of supervising the overall training of new CLS and MLT personnel
Demonstrates good judgement in handling situations not covered by written instructions.
Has the organization and foresight to reconcile department logs efficiently, completely and with the frequency required for efficient turn around.
Regularly consults with other laboratory personnel or supervisors in areas of uncertainty to assure accuracy and efficiency.
Willing and able to convey information/instructions accurately, positively and effectively to other laboratory personnel to assure accurate and timely outcomes.

Perform physical/index/chemical construction material laboratory testing, as assigned:
Concrete/Concrete Masonry Unit (CMU) Testing (concrete cylinder/cmu/core prep and compressing, specialty concrete testing, etc.)
Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) testing (gradations, AC content, density, etc.)
Soils (roadway base, select fills, subgrade, etc.), testing (moisture/density, Atterberg Limits, gradations, specialty, strength, etc.)
Aggregate testing (gradation, specific gravity, unit weight, etc.)
Properly document hours worked and assist in client billing efforts.
Perform and keep documentation of routine maintenance and calibration of equipment.

Meet deadlines and priorities according to established procedures.

Qualifications
High School diploma, G.E.D., or possess at least one current relevant industry certification, such as ACI Field, ACI Concrete Strength, ACI Aggregates, TxDOT SB101, SB102, SB103, SB201, SB202, 1A or 1B or other comparable industry certifications as required.
Possess a valid driver's license within the applicable jurisdiction and meet firm's auto insurability requirements.

If the patient is an adult, and has a bilirubin of 10, this is considered a panic value and must be handled as a life threatening emergency following our Laboratory's Panic Value Protocol.
19. Knowledgeable other tests such as Alkaline Phosphatase, AST, and LDH have similar variance in ranges between adult and children's normal ranges.
20. Performs all tests for which he/she is trained in assigned areas adhering to all standards set forth by CLIA, OSHA, The Joint Commission and other regulatory bodies.

Clinical Laboratory Technician Department: 9010|NIRC Administration Responsibilities: The New Iberia Research Center (NIRC), a $54 million biomedical research facility at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, is dedicated to advancing human health and societal well-being through the use of non-human primates in basic and applied research. As a vital resource for both internal and external researchers, the NIRC provides a collaborative environment for groundbreaking biomedical studies. We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Laboratory Technician to join our team and support diagnostic and research activities. This position will focus on processing, analyzing, and reporting diagnostic samples while adhering to strict compliance standards and maintaining high-quality diagnostic services.
Key Responsibilities:
* Process and analyze diagnostic samples, including hematology, coagulation, chemistry, microbiology, parasitology, and urinalysis, in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements.
* Perform calibration, preventative maintenance, and quality control activities for laboratory equipment.
* Ensure compliance with applicable regulations when shipping diagnostic samples.
* Apply analytic and diagnostic reasoning skills to interpret and resolve issues in diagnostic and research procedures.
* Conduct clinical diagnostic and research-related procedures, emphasizing the identification and resolution of problems requiring interpretive judgment.
* Maintain accurate records of laboratory activities and results in compliance with regulatory standards.
* Collaborate with research teams to ensure smooth and efficient diagnostic support for ongoing studies.
* Assist with troubleshooting and resolving equipment and procedural issues as they arise.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
* An Associate's Degree with emphasis in Clinical Laboratory Science
* A.S.C.P. certified or equivalent national certification exam approved by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners
* Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiner's licensure (or eligibility) as a Clinical Laboratory Technician
Preferred Qualifications:
* Previous experience as a generalist in a biomedical research or clinical laboratory
Skills, Abilities, Etc.:
* Strong computer skills are a must, as are skills in managing, planning, and organizing multiple activities.
* Basic knowledge and understanding of regulations governing operation of a research laboratory or hospital laboratory is preferred.
