The Role: Moderna is seeking a motivated and skilled Scientist to join the Clinical Flow Cytometry group. This individual will serve as the Cytometer Instrument Lead while also executing clinical testing, assay/panel development, and validation activities under GCLP guidelines. The Scientist will work with a team of scientists to deliver high-quality biomarker data to support clinical programs across multiple therapeutic areas. The successful candidate will have strong technical expertise in spectral flow cytometry instrumentation (Cytek Aurora), along with experience in developing, validating, and executing flow cytometry-based assays. This role requires deep understanding of immunology, experience in clinical laboratory environments, and the ability to apply best practices in translational and clinical sample testing. You will be an integral part in applying high parameter flow and complex assays to generate key clinical data to drive clinical trial decisions. Adhere to established experimental workflows and documentation procedures while working to improve processes and documents for accuracy and efficiency. Design, develop, and optimize multiparameter flow cytometry panels and assays, including ex vivo functional profiling (e.g., intracellular cytokine staining, proliferation, cell activation). Lead or support assay fit-for-purpose qualification and validation to ensure compliance with clinical standards. Perform data acquisition, gating analysis (FCS Express), interpretation, and reporting of study data. Contribute to analytical study documentation including SOPs, study plans, and study reports as needed. Stay current with emerging technologies, reagents, and industry best practices in clinical cytometry. Pre-clinical group developing next generation antibody and CAR T cell immunotherapies for cancer is looking for an exceptionally motivated individual with past in vivo experience. The Smith Lab group is focused CAR T cell immunotherapy for cancer and protein engineering/synthetic biology; taking projects from conception to transgene design /genetic engineering, through reduction to practice, and into in vivo studies, and ultimately to the clinic. >10 clinical trials have launched stemming from the Smith team's pre-clinical work. The candidate will make substantial contributions to the leadership of our in vivo work among other contributions. This will include coordinating and advising other senior staff in the lab in terms of design and timelines for in vivo experimentation, planning, execution, and data analysis. The candidate is expected to partner with others in the lab to lead many of the ongoing and future in vivo efforts including hands on tail vein injections and other procedures, as well as liaisoning/coordinating with the DFCI Animal Research Facility and technicians to ensure efficient, robust, accurate, ethical, and thoughtful in vivo work of the group. Starting pay rate is $33.00 Job Summary Medical Laboratory Scientist Blood Bank Day Shift 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM The Medical Laboratory Scientist II, in their role as Testing Personnel as defined by CLIA, may perform waived and non-waived testing. Under general supervision, carries out all policies and performs all tests in accordance with the department's standard operating procedures. Works independently in an efficient and organized manner to assure accurate results and records. The work requires a professional level of knowledge to read and interpret accurately test results used by providers in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The Medical Laboratory Scientist II, in their role as General Supervisor as defined by CLIA, may be delegated the responsibility of the day-to-day supervision or oversight of the laboratory operations and personnel performing testing and reporting results. Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager and Clinical Supervisors, the Medical Laboratory Scientist II is responsible for supervision of assigned workstations including Quality Control (QC) review, training, competency assessment of staff, and inventory management. The testing personnel are responsible for specimen processing, test performance, and for reporting test results. Each individual performs only those tests that are authorized by the laboratory director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual's education, training or experience, and technical abilities. No Essential Functions As outlined by CLIA, after successful completion of orientation, training and competency assessment on all instruments/methods applicable to their role: Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results. Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples. Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed. Follow the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance. Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical consultant, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications. Qualifications Qualifications - External Qualifications: 1. Requires Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related science. 2. MT(ASCP) or BB(ASCP) or equivalent certification. 3. Successful completion of the hospital's Trustworthiness and Reliability assessment. Unescorted access to the Blood Bank Irradiators is a requirement of the position.
