Job Essentials: Examines specimens microscopically and performs cellular evaluation for cancer detection and identification of other pathologic conditions. Verifies the identification of the specimen with the patient's name, accession number, and type of specimen on slide(s) and requisition and assures that established procedures are followed for collection, preparation, processing and evaluation for all specimens submitted for cytological exams. Evaluates general cellular preparations according to adequate material on slides and assures the number of slides examined or reviewed does not exceed the limit set by CLIA regulations. Discriminates between normal and abnormal cellular components, identifies cellular and non-cellular components, and locates and marks areas for further study. Performs evaluations and preparations in accordance with special requests, provides additional diagnostic interpretation as required, makes evaluation of abnormal specimens, and submits evaluation and specimen to pathologist for final evaluation and reporting to referring physician. The Lab Tech I position will be sampling, processing, and testing materials according to established procedures and specifications. Other responsibilities include: Perform and keep documentation of routine maintenance and calibration of equipment. Prepare testing and inspection reports, and safely maintaining documents. Regularly review test procedures, plans, specifications, general notes, and shop/working drawings before performing assigned duties. Continual communication with direct report regarding priorities, deadlines, progress, and delays on all projects. Demonstrate the safe usage, storage, and maintenance of all tools and equipment, including company vehicle. Meet deadlines and priorities according to established procedures. Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external personnel. Understand, adhere, and participate in the Raba Kistner Health & Safety and BBS Programs, setting a good example of our safety standards. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Completion of Troxler Manufacturing or equal radiation safety course to utilize nuclear gauges, ACI Field Testing Technician Grade 1, and ACI Concrete Strength Testing are all preferred. Otherwise successful applicants without these certifications/trainings may be required to attain them after employment. Related experience may be substituted with approval from the client. Good oral and written communications skills, ability to read and understand procedures, specifications, instruction, labels, reports, etc.is key. Must have some knowledge of basic math and science to analyze lab results. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, focus vision and depth vision. Work environment includes potential exposure to movement of heavy equipment on construction or roadway sites; potential exposure to hazardous dangerous chemicals and solvents, noise, dust, fumes, grease and oils, radiant and electrical energy, and vibration; all of which would require employee to implement and follow proper safety procedures and utilize appropriate protective equipment. Regular use of non-complex machines, tools, and equipment; must also possess the dexterity to utilize delicate and small laboratory equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. This position may require protracted or irregular hours. Flexibility to work irregular hours is necessary due to client needs.
