Responsibilities
Performs invasive cardiac, peripheral vascular diagnostic, interventional and electrophysiology procedures using sophisticated imaging, hemodynamic monitoring and recording equipment to assess and treated cardiac and peripheral vascular disease.
Possess a thorough understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology, hemodynamic principles, X-ray techniques, and emergent and routine cardiac care.
Possess knowledge of pharmacologic options for treatment and the impact it can have on exercise performance, hemodynamic and diagnostic tests.
Utilize different equipment, programs, and computers, including Cardiac, Vascular and EP experience XPER/CUPID/ GE, Siemens and Phillips XR system.
Ability to work with growth and development needs of unique client populations.
Qualifications
Associate's degree in cardiovascular technology or equivalent experience is required.
Possesses expert knowledge in cardiovascular technology, including pharmacology and advanced cardiac rhythm management. Possesses a thorough understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology, hemodynamic principles, X-ray techniques, and emergent and routine cardiac care.
Certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) within 12 months of hire is preferred. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if applicable to position is preferred.
Depending on location Certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) within 12 months of hire is required. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is required within 6 months of hire and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if applicable to position is preferred.

Essential Functions:
Collects and prepares biological specimens for analyses using appropriate techniques and maintains the integrity of the specimen in relation to the test being performed.
Determines acceptability of specimens within established guidelines, avoiding hemolysis, QNS, and wrong anticoagulant use.
Ensures equipment is functioning properly by performing or delegating performance of function checks, preventative maintenance and quality control. Documents actions.
Performs test analysis and reports test results in a timely manner meeting the expectations of physicians.
Assures initial calibration and standardization, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting for malfunction on instruments used in POC testing.
Conducts ongoing evaluation of functions and programs of the Laboratory relative to accreditation standards and recommends procedural changes.
Implements and monitors a Quality Assurance program to ensure the reliability of all technical services offered to meet internal and external regulations.
Maintains competency and enhances professional growth and development through education, conferences and seminars.
Demonstrates the willingness and ability to instruct other staff and students.

Essential Functions:
Performs various clinical testing including chemical, microscopic and bacteriologic to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Follow laboratory procedures for specimen collection, test analysis, reporting and record keeping.
Adhere to laboratory quality control standards and policies, including documentation of all quality control values and activities.
Perform instrument calibration/recalibration as indicated by test and/or instrument specification with appropriate documentation.
Perform analyzer maintenance with appropriate documentation as indicated by analyzer specification.
Maintains competency in all assigned work areas of testing in the laboratory and perform proficiency testing as required to a minimal level of 80%.
Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problem or notify the Laboratory Supervisor.
Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
Participate in the Laboratory Quality Improvement Program for CCMSD in such a manner as to improve the quality of care rendered to clients served by CCMSD.
Education:
Must possess a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, Applied Science or Equivalent.
Must possess or obtain ASCP registry or equivalent as MLS or MLT.
Experience:

Performs technical laboratory testing in the laboratory. The medical laboratory technologist / medical laboratory technician assists with all laboratory duties as needed and other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Manager.
Knowledge of current medical technology to perform full range of laboratory tests and to communicate with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results. Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks and troubleshooting of instrumentation. Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Ability to read and understand information about instrumentation in laboratory field. Ability to follow written protocols. Ability to work independently. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Requirements:
Education/Experience:
Successful completion of a medical laboratory technologist / medical laboratory technician program.
Required Credentials (Licensure, Certification, or Registration):
Must provide a current medical laboratory technologist or medical laboratory technician license.
Employment Variables:
Work hours vary and will include weekend, holiday, and on-call hours. The Medical Laboratory Technician / Medical Laboratory Technologist will interact with patients of all ages. Initial Tuberculosis (TB) test and drug screening is required by Winner Regional Health. Rubella titer will also be drawn upon hire and immunization is required if no past exposure or indication of immunization.
Required to wear name tag provided by WRH and to follow the dress code of WRH.

Clinical and Technical Competency
Demonstrates knowledge of specimen requirements and understands all regulations regarding sample collection, handling and processing. Properly identifies the client before specimen collection and labels all specimens according to laboratory policy. Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate venipuncture, arterial puncture and capillary sites of blood collection. Demonstrates knowledge and correct use of all phlebotomy equipment including machines, needles, tubes, lancets, etc. Demonstrates technically correct methods of specimen collection using aseptic technique to prevent the spread of infection. Demonstrates knowledge of specimen requirements and understands the necessity of special handling of certain samples. Demonstrates knowledge of correct procedure for and assists in obtaining throat and nasopharyngeal specimens. Assesses the feasibility of laboratory results through correlation of data with common physiological conditions. Cancels and orders tests as necessary. Accurately transcribes clinical test results. Able to perform in emergency situations.
Technical Competency
Performs chemical and serological analysis of blood and body fluid. Performs hematological and microbiological examinations. Performs blood banking procedures, including preparation of components for transfusion. Performs quality control checks on instruments, solutions, and test results against established standards and initiates corrective action when necessary; ensuring accurate test results. Performs all maintenance activities and ensures instrument function remains high-quality. Assists in resolving testing and instrument problems within department and contacts manufacturer's technical support as needed to eliminate instrument and/or procedures downtime. Assists with all duties with regard to new instrument acquisition and new test implementation. Ensures all necessary records are properly maintained such as test results, quality control and maintenance.
Communication
Maintains quality of patient care and communicates with the laboratory manager, medical staff and laboratory staff, ensuring consistent information flow.
Students
Instructs students or clinic staff on correct techniques and procedures. Allows students to observe during sample collection and other job duties.
Additional Duties
Files results, reports, and bills appropriately. Approximately designates charges and credits. Monitors reports. Maintains printers with regard to paper, ribbons, and print cartridges. Stocks supplies for department when necessary. Utilizes time, materials and resources in an economical manner.
