    University of Iowa Health Care Department of Psychiatry is seeking qualified, post-MSW applicants to join our amazing team of Clinical Social Workers in a fellowship program. The Clinical Therapy Fellowship is a specialized opportunity for individuals who have obtained a Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) and who are seeking additional training as a therapist. The successful candidates will be hired and assigned to the Department of Psychiatry as Social Worker IIIs and will work closely in fellowship with a board-approved clinical supervisor to accrue hours toward independent licensure. The Fellows will divide their work hours, providing therapy within a wide variety of treatment needs as well as participate in a host of training lectures, groups, and projects catered toward professional interests. The Clinical Therapy Fellow will gain exceptional interdisciplinary connections, professional growth, confidence, and professional direction available to them through this large academic setting. Our program includes a first and second-year training protocol. At the time of acceptance, fellows will be provided a one-year employment contract. The successful fellow would be eligible to progress to the second year and provided another one-year contract, if they meet satisfactory performance. Upon completion of their second year, Fellows are expected to have completed their supervision contracts, be prepared to sit for the LISW exam, and to present superior qualifications for practice at the independent level. Basic Function Work as a therapist in the Department of Psychiatry while receiving essential clinical supervision and interdepartmental training to facilitate licensure at the independent level of Social Work (LISW). Provide specialized practice skills in the following areas: 1. Child, adolescent and adult psychosocial assessment; 2. child, adult and family psychotherapy; 3. group therapy; 4. consultation. Advanced opportunities for research, teaching and leadership exist. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities * Active participation in Fellow education and training curriculum, including but not limited to 1:1 and group Clinical Supervision. * Commitment to a related departmental project, involving proposal and approval, planning and implementing, data collection and outcomes report to department. * Provide planned and emergent mental health assessments of child and adult patients presenting with a range of behavioral health complaints and concerns in an outpatient clinic. * Formulate diagnostic opinions and treatment plans utilizing the criteria of the DSM 5. * Provide individual, family and group psychotherapy services to extremely distressed, highly emotionally charged patients - including those diagnosed with eating disorders, disruptive behavior disorders, serious and persistent mental illnesses, mood disorders, anxiety, and bipolar disorders. * Provide risk assessment for child and adult self-harm and harm to others. * Differentially provide a wide range of therapeutic interventions including behavior modification, dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and interpersonal modalities of treatment. * Collaborate with members of the multi-disciplinary clinic treatment team to implement patient care recommendations. * Comply with standards regarding attendance, documentation, and continuous quality improvement, data collection, clinic policies and the Code of Ethics. * Keep current with social work and health care knowledge base and to pursue further enhancements of job-related knowledge. * Provide program development, teaching and research services.
