A Brief Summary of This Position:
This is an individual contributor position in the Lighting and Transportation division. The incumbent reads and interprets customer order information. This position processes drafting requests for production and customer submittal drawings, consistent with Valmont standard practices, in the moderate range of complexity, and prepares the necessary drawings and other data for the teams, other departments and the manufacturing facilities, as well as interfaces, with direction from the site Engineering Manager, directly with other company departments on customer order and manufacturing problems. Customer contact may be required to aid the design/order process.
The Drafting Department is responsible for processing drawings for customers and the manufacturing facilities while maintaining the company objectives for quality and lead-time. This Individual Contributor role must interact with people in all departments in order to maintain amiable and profitable relationships in inter-departmental communication.
The incumbent will, with required supervision, read and interpret customer specifications, plans, and other order information to determine the format required to complete customer orders. He/she will be responsible for reporting any inconsistent, conflicting, or missing customer information to the reviewing Engineer.
This position is important to the results of the department and the division. He/she may identify, recommend, and help develop revisions to standard product designs, drafting procedures, and systems to improve the department and the division.
Essential Functions:
This position reports to the site Engineering Manager and has no direct or indirect reports
This role requires limited to no travel
Analyze all information necessary to complete drawings for an individual order accurately and efficiently
Support the department backlog by monitoring individual drafting order schedules, providing updates to the computerized backlog, and meeting “Promises Kept” in accordance with departmental priorities
Maintain required drafting productivity output in accordance with departmental priorities
Maintain required drawing accuracy in accordance with departmental priorities
Maintain a cooperative and professional attitude in dealing with all departments of the company
Maintain and update an accurate filing system of customer requirements
Maintain an awareness of current Drafting policies and procedures
Maintain an awareness of current manufacturing capabilities and limitations
Handle special assignments as requested by the Engineering Manager.
Provide technical or drafting support to any department, for any project that will enhance product or company interest
Maintain appropriate professional competencies, certifications, licenses, etc., necessary to perform job duties
Develop tapering profiles for production equipment using established software tools
Develop 3D models of parts to be used for programming of CNC equipment
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:
High School diploma and 2+ years of work/educational experience in drafting
Technical skills in computer-aided drafting and a basic understanding of mathematics are normally acquired through an Associate of Applied Science degree and/or related experience (includes Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry)
A solid background in using AutoCAD
Previous PC experience a must, including intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Autodesk (AutoCAD and Inventor)
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret customer specifications, plans, and other order information to determine the format required to complete customer orders
Ability to identify any inconsistent, conflicting or missing customer information and determine the correct course of action to resolve the issues with some assistance from the Engineering team

What you'll do
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CAD Drafter to join our engineering team. This role will support our Finishing, Tooling, and Compaction teams by creating and maintaining accurate technical drawings for tools, finished parts, and part assemblies. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in drafting principles, experience with SolidWorks and Fusion/AutoCAD, and the ability to interpret and produce precise engineering drawings.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate closely with tooling, compaction, and finishing teams to develop detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings, model files suitable for fabrication, customer review and internal process use.
Draft and revise technical model & drawings for tools, components, assemblies, and finished parts.
Design fixturing and tooling solutions to hold parts securely during machining, assembly, and finishing operations.
Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and verbal instructions to create accurate representations.
Ensure drawings comply with company standards and industry best practices.
Maintain organized drawing files and documentation for easy retrieval and revision tracking.
Participate in design reviews and provide input on manufacturability and design improvements.
Support engineering change processes and update drawings accordingly.
Perform basic FEA or mapping to validate structural integrity and optimize designs (preferred but not required).
What we are looking for
Associate degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field.

Trystar's team members are our most important asset, we are in search of a Designer to join our team. As part of the engineering team, the Designer will be supporting the team by creating and updating both mechanical and electrical design to support product improvements with accurate engineering documentation (e.g. 3D models, mechanical drawings, schematics, etc.). The ideal candidate will be proficient in CAD tools and capable of creating detailed drawings and models that meet engineering and industry standards.
This position reports directly to the Sustaining Mechanical & Electrical Engineering Manager.
Job Responsibilities:
Develop and revise detailed mechanical and electrical drawings, schematics, and layouts using CAD software
Collaborate with engineering teams to translate product improvement concepts and prototypes into production-ready designs.
Create and maintain accurate documentation including BOMs, assembly instructions, and revision histories.
Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and manufacturing capabilities.
Perform tolerance analysis and ensure proper fit and function of mechanical components.
Assist in the integration of electrical components into mechanical assemblies.
Review and incorporate feedback from engineers, manufacturing, and quality teams.
Maintain drawing databases and support change management system
Job Requirements:
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree in mechanical engineering technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field.
6+ years of experience in mechanical and electrical drafting/design.
Proficiency in CAD tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and electrical design software.
Understanding of mechanical fabrication processes and electrical wiring standards.
Experience with ECO processes and change management systems.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

**Department:** Service **Electric Machinery Company, a division of WEG Electric Corp.** **Minneapolis, MN** Service Design Drafter** Department: Service ** The Design Drafter will create and maintain designs, layouts, drawings, and documentation required for product lines, which include motors, generators and magnetic drives. Design Drafters adhere to both internal and internationals standards, as well as applicable specifications in order to achieve satisfactory product performance. Product lines contain both standard and custom designs with high engineering content. Also support customer orders from the proposal phase thru the design, development, manufacturing, testing, and field service/aftermarket phases. The Design Drafter will be responsible for collaboration and sharing of best design practices within the WEG Company
**Major Areas of Accountability:**
+ **Engineering Work** : Must be an enthusiastic self starter, able to organize and pursue broad objectives, and have the ability to manage multiple, changing priorities. Performs assigned drafting tasks under supervision, including creating 2D drawings and 3D models from sketches, layouts, creating bill of materials, or marked-up prints. **Knowledge /Skills / Abilities:**
+ 2 years technical college, 2 years college pre-engineering, Drafting Certificate or equivalent
+ 0 - 3 years- experience building upon the Detail and Layout Drafter
+ Knowledge of documentation requirements of ISO 9001.
+ Knowledge and understanding of engineering operating systems within the department and understanding of how engineering interfaces with other departments.
+ Necessary present knowledge of current operating systems and software common to business applications (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project).
+ Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing both internally & with customers
