Primary Function: Under general direction, performs moderately-difficult to difficult design assignments which require the application of advanced design techniques in accordance with company and industry standards and codes. Most assignments are performed with minimal guidance. This is the senior-level design position.
Primary Duties:
Applies experience with, and is able to utilize, the company's procured software systems latest release of MicroStation and other Bentley support products such as Geopak or OpenRoads
Has solid experience with adhering to industry CAD standards
Demonstrates a basic understanding of the latest releases of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe PDF, and Windows File Explorer
Is able to mentor and train engineering interns, drafting, and other design staff
Maintains in-depth knowledge of civil engineering basics including sheet organization, topographical data, scales, coordinate systems, site grading and volume calculations
Has the ability to read, analyze and interpret red line drawings from Engineers, Managers, or others on the project team, as well as understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions, and interact effectively to maintain a team environment
Technical Responsibilities:
Prepare preliminary and final drawings, plans, profiles and exhibits from engineering sketches, verbal instructions, specifications and supporting documentation according to latest company, industry and client standards using AutoCAD and MicroStation
Assist Engineers with collecting field data and applying it to design drawing and exhibits
Ensure accuracy of drawings and maintain production schedules
Work with other CADD Technicians and Engineers and be part of a design team
Demonstrate attention to detail and ability to communicate with team members
Maintain soft and hard copies of all project related documents per the company filing system
Research, understand, and apply published CADD and Design standards applicable to work assignments
Assist staff and management as a technical specialist with other duties as assigned
Communication Skills:
Effective oral and written communications skills
Must have strong interpersonal skills to communicate team members and other staff
Travel and/or Environment Requirements:
Must be able to visually observe and differentiate details and colors of objects, recognize sound, tone and pitch; adjust to interruption and changes; work in hot, cold, and noisy work areas; stand, walk and sit for extended periods; climb stairs and ladders; deal with people in tense situations, and lift up to twenty (20) pounds
Must have State Driver's License and carry applicable State mandated auto insurance
Must have dependable transportation to attend meetings or to make field visits on a short notice
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Required Experience
Requires 5+ years of related experience in civil engineering environment: Roadway, Drainage, Water Wastewater Improvements
Requires applied experience with software systems latest release of MicroStation and other Bentley support products such as Geopak or OpenRoads
Required Education
High School Diploma or GED; or any equivalent combination of education and applied experience in civil engineering environments: Roadway, Drainage, Water Wastewater Improvements
Associate's degree is desirable.
Engagement in life-long learning to maintain knowledge of contemporary issues.

HIRING A MECHANICAL DESIGNER/EIT IN SAN ANTONIO
ACCOUNTABILITY Perform design duties on all projects while working with other designers and BIM design staff to deliver a quality product on schedule. Interacts with other designers and clients as authorized by Project Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Act as the primary designer on a project. Shall include all phases of a project from kick-off to completion of construction
Coordinate all design aspects with other disciplines
Provide schematic design information to Project Manager or senior-level design staff such as preliminary calculations, design distribution, equipment sizing, and providing cut sheets of all equipment proposed
Make calculations using engineering formulas and software for design
Research and select equipment based on experience and fill out schedules
Prepare drawings and sketches to incorporate into final drawings
Research design options and document findings
Research code issues and asks code officials questions
Assure that drawings and designs are in accordance with company production and design standards
Keep Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project scope or additional services
Prepare preliminary task list
Edit specifications
Incorporate design concepts from schematic design into design development and work with project team to produce construction documents
Organize and maintain project files. Maintain neat and organized work area, which allows efficient access to information required by other team members.
Solve engineering problems using experience, judgment and education but is expected to ask for assistance when needed
Continue learning process by attending in-house seminars and continuing education opportunities outside of office.
Perform additional assignments as requested/needed
