Responsibilities and duties of the Instrumentation and Controls Specialist role Reporting to the Heating Plant Supervisor, you will be responsible for: Lead the upkeep and reliability of Williams College's Combined Heat & Power (CHP) facility, including steam turbines, diesel generators, steam boilers, and Siemens software systems. Collaborate with external vendors to support and enhance plant software, including control and valve tuning, with opportunities for additional training and development. Oversee the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operation of the facility. Carry out scheduled calibrations of transmitters, control valves, and associated equipment. Service and monitor air compressors, dryers, and related systems to ensure continuous instrument and plant air supply, with accurate data recording and logging. Organize and coordinate day-to-day maintenance activities to keep the plant running smoothly and efficiently. Promote high standards within the team and provide training on instrumentation and controls. Maintain in-depth knowledge of all plant systems, operations, and emergency procedures, referring to technical manuals when required. Ensure strict adherence to operating procedures, safety policies, and lock-out/tag-out requirements. Champion a strong safety culture by ensuring that all employees and contractors follow established guidelines. Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following: Must hold a valid driver license. Valid Massachusetts 2nd Class Engineers License or higher (to act as Stationary Engineer when required) High school diploma or GED required. It would be advantageous to have a Massachusetts Hoisting License classifications 1C and 3A but not a requirement Licensed Electrician in the state of Massachusetts Personal skills The Instrument and Controls Specialist position would suit someone who has: Ideally at least ten years maintenance experience in Instrumentation & Controls field ideally in a related working environment such as a Heating Plant or Power Station however other industries will also be considered. Job Description This position supports the engineering and design needs of the control panel and process electrical design. This position will engage with various internal and external resources to gather data for best-in-class design and final products. External resources include manufacturer representatives and customer personnel. Responsibilities Develop electrical and controls system design solutions based on engineering principles. Evaluate P&IDs to determine I/O requirements. Develop electrical schematics, panel layouts, and BOM's. Design and facilitate production of control panels per NEC & UL standards. Maintain a neat, clean, and efficient work area daily. Develop and execute QC process for quality assurance. Provide support to field electricians to ensure projects are completed as scheduled. Qualifications Experience designing industrial electrical control systems. Experience in Electrical Construction Drawings Must have knowledge and understanding of AC / DC power circuits, pushbuttons, circuit breakers, power supplies, overloads, contactors, relays, motors, VFD's, PLC's Must have knowledge of National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) Design to UL Standards for Industrial Control Panels (UL508A) (preferred) Able to interpret NEC for Control Panel to meet the NEC and or field installation. As a Control Systems Engineer you will generate controls designs and write control programs for machinery built by AGR. This position requires coordination with Engineers, Project Managers, Customers and Vendors. You will be expected to use a high level of judgment and experience to make robust, effective equipment. Work to be performed at the lowest cost consistent with quality standards, design requirements and completion schedules. You will: Design controls for world-class quality industrial machinery. Be responsible for overall control system concept and design along with project deployment responsibility while working with designers, drafts people and technicians within the electrical department. Be part of a collaborative and cooperative design team Have opportunity to act as project lead while also working in a supporting engineering and programming role as part of a larger team, often simultaneously on different projects.
