Responsibilities include reviewing plan sets for line routes, structure plans, design calculations, BOMs, stringing, and material and equipment specifications. Additional duties involve site visits, MV collection design, substation structure and foundation assessments, fiber optic cabling, grounding, and material take-offs. The role requires close collaboration with engineers, clients, and contractors to coordinate design packages and ensure smooth transitions from design to construction. Key Responsibilities: Lead efforts in organizing, reviewing, interpreting, and executing design and project coordination tasks, ensuring alignment with overall project goals. Responsible for evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment to adapt and modify designs, and providing interpretations and conclusions. Review or develop the design philosophy and associated calculations for transmission design projects. Have a strong understanding of electrical power and distribution systems (low, medium, and high voltage), including grounding systems and engineering calculations (voltage drop, fault current, load calculations, etc.), ensuring compliance with relevant codes (e.g., NEC, ANSI/IEEE). Contribute to design development, optimization, and field construction methods. Support the development of long-term, detailed design and constructability strategies. Develop and update engineering tools for equipment sizing based on project requirements. Produce independent engineering reports and evaluations. Review and provide feedback on commercial agreements, including Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), Interconnection Agreements, and Facility Studies.     Controls engineer job in Houston, TX

    Independently performs engineering activities related to all phases of Control Systems lifecycle, including turnkey design, systems integration, construction support, operational support, and design enhancements required to improve system capabilities. Able to interface directly with the Client to understand design requirements and provide the required solution(s). Requires knowledge and understanding of good project management practices related to project initiation, planning, execution, and cost controls. RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to: Provide turnkey design and Client operational support for the following: PLC/PAC/RTU Configuration and Programming HMI Database and Graphics development Industrial Networks a plus Testing Procedures and System Manuals Prepares System Architecture diagrams, Logic diagrams, Cause and Effect matrices, Control Narrative documents. Communicates Control System design to Client and other design disciplines. Develop technical design drawings for the assigned segment of a project (e.g. Control Panel design drawings). Understand and participate in control systems Factory Acceptance Test (“FAT”). Understand and participate in control systems Site Acceptance Test (“SAT”). Conduct Field trips to existing Client sites to gather operating data and equipment information. Prepares bid estimates and technical responses to Request for Quote (“RFQ”) opportunities. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor of Science (or higher) degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or Computer Science. Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience. Knowledge of NEC, API, ISA, UL, and other relevant industry regulations and standards. Knowledge of industry standards related to documentation, basic regulatory and discrete control, loop tuning, and safety systems a plus. Experience reading and developing I&E Drawings, Control Panel Drawings, Cause and Effect Diagrams, Control Narratives, Conduit and Cable Schedules. Knowledge and experience programming and configuring the following: Allen-Bradley, PLC and HMI platforms. Siemens, Modicon, Emerson or ABB RTU platforms a plus. Knowledge of industrial network infrastructure design and communication protocols (i.e. EtherNet/IP, MODBUS, etc.). Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver clear messages to Client or Management. Travel (up to 50%).
