Accountability: Candidates will perform switching, equipment maintenance, rule compliance and other duties associated with maintaining an efficient and safe switching operation. The work schedule is full time and hours may vary according to customer needs (operations are 24/7). Responsibilities: Operate switches and brakes to ensure trains move safely between tracks. Build trains by attaching and detaching freight cars, inspect trains for rules compliance and order accuracy. Ensure working conditions are safe, and proper PPE is being used as required before starting any work. The role requires knowledge of products and materials, the ability to lift heavy items, forklift certification, and proficiency in using computers to track inventory. Additional tasks include inspecting shipments, packing/unpacking materials, and labeling products. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential for success in this position. Our Train Crew Members play an important part in keeping our locomotives moving. We will teach you the workings of our trains, as well as the rules and regulations that must be followed to complete the job safely! Must be willing to travel to and work at other R.J. Corman short-lines in the region including those in Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama. Accountability: Performs engine operation, on-ground duties, equipment and track maintenance and other assigned duties to assist in an efficient railroad operation. Expected to progress in skill and responsibilities of train operations over time with the eventual goal of becoming the Train Crew Member responsible for locomotive engineering duties.
