Summary:
Full time MLT position at Morrow County Hospital on third shift, Sign on Bonus of $10,000. The Medical Technologist (ASCP) performs accurate, precise, and timely patient test results for the diagnosis and management of human illness. Utilizes automation, computerization, and manual methods. Responsible for quality control and instrument operation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
Position handles blood, tissue, fecal matter, sputum, urine, spinal fluid and other bodily fluids. Specimens may be contaminated with infectious diseases including HIV and other blood borne pathogens.
Responsibilities And Duties:
- 55% Critical thinking, academic theory, facilitation/leadership abilities, and advanced customer service skills. Examples include but are not limited to: The performance of complex analysis of all body fluids and tissues. Determining the reliability of all analytic data before releasing as patient measurement for diagnosis and treatment. Interpreting information to make judgmental decisions and troubleshooting technical procedure and instruments. Utilizing knowledge of medical correlation of data, laboratory parameters, physiologic factors, medication effects, and specific medical treatments to assess the validity of laboratory data. Using appropriate testing techniques to evaluate new testing methodologies and practices. Demonstrating safety and infection control practices. Assist in gathering test data for evaluation of new methods and installation of equipment.
- 15% Customer service to clinicians and clients. Must be comfortable and professional on the telephone, able to communicate with physician office staff, clinical staff, and all laboratory associates. Must be able to communicate with patients and their families, using service recovery when necessary.
- 20% Quality assurance functions and equipment maintenance functions. Performs quality control checks on each procedure, equipment, reagents, stains, etc. Documents and interprets all QC data used by technologists to determine validity of patient results and verify instrument performance. Documents and reviews maintenance logs to assure optimum system performance, guaranteeing valid data and eliminating costly, time-consuming equipment failures.
- 5% Continuing Education and Competencies. Remains current in field. Trains new employees and students. Maintains competencies, mandatory educational requirements (ACE).
- 5% Miscellaneous duties. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Laboratory Technical Support
Distributes tools and equipment to students for classroom and laboratory use, documents disbursements, and collects and stores tools following use. Cleans tools, equipment, and floor. Cleans and maintains the lab area. Opens and closes the Lab at shift end and ensures equipment is stored in the proper location to secure the Aviation Lab.
Ensures tools, equipment, and training aids are functional, operational, and performs needed diagnostic service and minor repairs. Replaces tools and equipment when necessary. Prepares new training aids and donated vehicles for laboratory use.
Performs vehicle preventive maintenance. Charges batteries, maintains fuel levels, monitors tire pressure, and performs other maintenance of a routine nature. Schedules aircraft work for laboratory projects. Orders aircraft service and repair, labor time and estimation manuals, and updates automotive computer programs.
Inventory & Clerical Support
Maintains and updates inventory of tools, special service kits, equipment, stock items, and vehicles. Monitors disbursements, orders needed items, and obtains bid offers on new equipment.
Utilizes college-approved contractors to ensure proper handling and disposal of waste oil and other hazardous materials. Keeps accurate records. Completes and maintains required documentation, including inventory reports, work orders, and requisitions.
Program Support
Assists instructors. Obtains and returns training materials, sets up vehicles and other training aids, and arranges chairs, tables, and equipment. Answers routine questions, gives aviation lab tours, provides general information, and performs other duties to maintain good public and student relations.

Minimum Qualifications
Must have a high school Diploma or GED with technical or vocational Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) training.

State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s)
